my wife and i use trip advisor quite a bit and on a recent trip we were spending the night in ames, iowa. we found aunt maudes and thought we might give it a try. the name indicates something that may border on being too cutesy, but we found the food and the ambiance to be fantastic. the restaurant decor is eclectic. part of it looks like a hunting lodge, part of it looks like a victorian parlor. the food and service was superb. i had the grilled salmon on parsnip puree with brussell sprouts that were blanched and then sauteed in bacon. my wife had an assortment of appetizers that was outstanding. when in ames, go to aunt maudes!

Don't let the name make you think this will be like dining with an elderly relative. Aunt Maude's is a central Iowa favorite with inventive, high quality food and a relaxing atmosphere. The Chicken Tequila Fettucini and the filet mignon are always favorites as are all the specials--especially fish dishes. The roasted pear and goat cheese salad is a must and desserts are great--particularly the chocolate mousse. You can also eat in the bar.
