My husband I have always loved Maude's and were curious to see how the renovations went. We went there Saturday night and arrived 10 minutes before closing. They seated us graciously and never rushed us, despite us being the only ones in the restaurant at the time.
The menu had many of the old favorites and a few new ones. A great change was the "bistro" section where there are smaller poritions for lower prices. I had the blackened chicken pasta, my all time favorite. The price was $10.99 and it was just the right size and came with a salad and bread - plenty of food. My husband tried my fried chicken breast and it was delicious; it was topped with sausage gravy that was not heavy at all, and a corn and potato mix.
If you are in Ames and want a quality dining experience at a midwestern price, you can't beat Aunt Maude's! I wish my aunt's could cook like this, family dinners would be a lot more special.
