We are new to the Ames area and missing the restaurants from our previous home, which was a large city. My husband wanted Mexican, so we found La Fuente on our GPS and were very pleasantly surprised.
The parking was only allowed on one side of the building, but - there were many spaces so not a problem. We went on a Wednesday evening, around 6 pm. It was busy with people and families, coming and going, but - it was not too loud.
We were greeted, seated, served water, warm chips and yummy, fresh tasting salsa with fresh cilantro and just the right amount of heat. The menu was easy to understand and offered a nice variety of meat selections as well as vegetarian entrees.
We both ordered combination dinners, which arrived very fast! Nice presentation of the food as well has large portions. We had to take our leftovers "to go" as it was just too much food. The beans and rice weren't overdone, the corn tortillas had great flavor and everyone around us seemed pleased with their food and meals as well.
We also ordered the friend cheesecake dessert to share and it was also lovely in presentation and a delightful, cream cheese and vanilla experience! Served with icecream, whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate and caramel decorations and accented with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.
Dishes and utensils were clean and in good condition. Water tasted fresh. Nothing bad at all; only hot, fresh, yummy food.
The only downfall was that I was recovering from a leg injury and had to go down 2 flights of steps to visit the restroom. Restrooms are in the lower level and the dining area is in the upper level. Otherwise, it was a very nice dinner.
