“Clean, fresh atmosphere with good food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

This Hilton Garden Inn keeps up with the high expectations I have when staying at Hilton hotels across the country. Everything was clean and pleasant. Checking in took a bit longer than what is typical: there was only one employee and she was trying to manage not only checking me in, but also 2 phone calls and a malfunctioning computer. It wasn't that big of a deal, but I don't usually see this at Garden Inns.

The room itself was clean and well-appointed. The a/c/heating unit was a bit loud, but it made for good white noise to sleep. I definitely didn't hear any other noises.

Breakfast was good, though the sausage and potatoes could've been a bit warmer. The service at breakfast was fantastic. I liked the different butters they had (mixed berry and something with raisins)

This hotel is within walking distance of a couple restaurants, a gas station and a liquor store (which can help decrease your hotel bar tab). it's located right off the highway so it was easy to find.

About The only thing I didn't like was the bed I slept horrible. I've stayed in other Garden Inns with the "select you comfort" beds and usually have no problems sleeping, but unfortunately this time was not like that. Maybe it was because the pillows were a bit flat or the fan was loud or maybe it was just me and I wouldve slept awful on any bed that night.. Whatever it was though, I woke up feeling miserable and exhausted. I'm guessing it was a fluke this time, so I'll definately be back here again the next time I'm passing through town. If I sleep badly on my next stay, I'll blame it on the hotel, but for now, I'll attribute it to just being one of those nights where you can't sleep.

the garden inn in Ames Ia is a good hotel for business travel.
Pros:
*The rooms are large with comfortable beds
*good internet service
*front desk is pleasant and helpful
*business center is available 24 hours,
*within walking distance to fast food, sports bar, and convenience store,.
*hotel is able to handle meetings large and small
*bar and grill on premises.
Con:
*air conditioners are on motion sensors, in the summer you will wake up sweating, and not until you get up and move around will the ac come back on.
*breakfast buffet is good but $10/person. If travelling with a family on vacation I'd pick another chain that offer a free full breakfast.
*the menu is pretty limited at the grill, some regular bar food, and an attmept at higher end bar food.

Room Tip: on first floor stay far away form the front desk....phone ringing carries quite a distance

This is by far one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The service is impeccable all the way from the front desk staff all the way to the Chef. I come from the hotel industry and the service that was provided by the staff was truly a treat, I can't wait to come back

We stayed here for one night on our busy trip to the US.

Over all this is a great place to stop over and off the main road so little noise. The room is well appointed and clean (including spa bath in the room we booked). The bed is comfortable and adjustable. Reception informative, quick and friendly. Free parking and easy access - we noticed several large trailers utilising it.

We ate dinner here and enjoyed a good meal, well cooked and priced. Breakfast was included and had both hot and cold options on buffet or fresh cooked. Everything was really good and one of the best incuded breakfasts we have had.

Absolutely no complaints and think value for money this is definately a good hotel. We would book again when in this area.

This is a nice place to stay. The cleanliness, friendliness, and professional management are at the high levels that I expect at Hilton hotels.

The dining options could use some work.

The dining room needs a hostess. In the morning, guests have a choice between a breakfast buffet and eggs made-to-order. In either case, you seat yourself. I opted for made-to-order eggs. I had to spend five minutes each morning staring down a waitress before I could get in my order. (Also, I suspect that the omelets do not come directly from freshly cracked eggs.)

The dinning room needs a more varied menu. You get eggs for breakfast and not much choice for dinner. After a stay of a few days, the limited breakfast and dinner menus begins to wear.

There is a tentative quality about this hotel's restaurant. Is it going to be a full-service restaurant? Is it going to be a limited-options breakfast bar?

Again, this is a nice place to stay. The breakfast confusion and the limited menus only become apparent after a stay of a few days.

During a recent stay found parking lot falling apart, bad first impression of a somewhat new hotel. Other than that the hotel seems uptodate. Found the online rate to be fair. Heard the clerk take a phone reservation and quoted a rate of over double what I had paid. The rooms are nice but smallish. Had received an upgrade to a suite, that was nice, had mini fridge and microwave. Not sure if all room have that or not, the suite was not wider, just like maybe 4 feet deeper than standard rooms, much like the room vs suite at holiday inn expresses. Had to ask for the free breakfast ( a benefit of being Hilton Gold ) as they didn't offer it, the fod and service in breakfast area was fantastic. I think normal price was 11 bucks per person which compared to most hotels that charge for breakfast is a better value than most as the food is actually good.

Room Tip: Be a Hilton Honors member and book online at hotels website. Overlook the sink holes in the parking...
