“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2011

I agree with some of the other folks that have reviewed this motel. It was pretty basic but good location. Very clean. Make sure to go to the bakery and stock up on goodies.

Very basic room and services. No clock, no hair dryer. Coffee only available in the office. Very clean, comfortable enough. Great location, Easy walk to everything in Amana. They do have a website but you cannot make reservations on-line. No vacancy by late afternoon on the week-end.

Stayed here for one night. Hotel is convenient to everything in Amana. Room is very basic with just the basics. Small soap bars, slightly fuzzy tv, no internet, no coffee maker. Since most eateries open at 8 AM, this was a downfall.

I think this place is slightly overpriced for the product, but I would stay here again for the location.

I stayed at the Guest Haus the weekend of September 25th through 27th.Our room was completely spotless not a speck of dirt to be found anywheres. We had a 2 queen room that allowed smoking which is tough to find in the amanas.Previous reviews are correct you get a bed,bar of soap, towel, and bath, nothing else.Everything in main amana though is within walking distance so the location is perfect. The room had decent cable tv too but we werent there to watch tv.This is a great place to stay if you are looking for a clean place to crash after a long day of exploring the many shops of the amanas. The price was very affordable too as we only paid just under 65 bucks a night.I would stay here again when exploring the amanas I'll just bring a coffee maker the next time as the jave junction across the street didnt open til 8 on saturday and 830 on sunday. Its overall a very good value.

I felt the motel was over priced for what you got. The location is the best thing it has going for it. The room was a nice size but decorated so drab. It is a bare bones motel. I felt for what you recieved it was over price. A bed, a bar of soap, a towel and that is about all. A cup of coffee would be nice. Not a cozy place at all.

This is VERY basic lodging. I've stayed here many times and will stay here again, but I know what I'm getting. Reviews are correct - only a bar of soap is provided, nothing else. No breakfast, not even coffee in the lobby. However, the location is great for strolling around Amana during the day and a quiet restful night. This is located in the charming village of Main Amana, which is 13 miles (20 minutes) from the Interstate. The price is relatively high, considering no breakfast or other amenities included. I pay the same price at the Des Moines Radisson for a deluxe room & full breakfast. All rooms in this motel are dimly lit, but I don't go to Amana to sit in my room and read. This motel is within walking distance to Amana's many restaurants, wineries and shops. You can choose between the ivy-covered Sandstone House, which is 150 years old & listed on the National Register; or a "newer" building, which has plain wood siding, uninspired decorating and is 25 years old. Sandstone House rooms are charmingly decorated with quilts and patterned wallpaper, but are still very basic and have no individual room temp controls. The windows provide temperature control in spring & fall. Private baths, but tiny, with only a toilet and shower/tub combo. Shower heads are low - about 5 feet high. A single sink in the bedroom area provides a pull-chain lightbulb above a small mirror. Steps are required for all sandstone house rooms and rooms on the second floor of the "newer" building. Rooms in the newer building are similar to a Super 8 (but less decorating & amenities) and bathrooms are more modern than the Sandstone House. Queen beds throughout, which I find comfortable. No Internet available and this hotel does not even have a web site, but I get good reception on my smart phone in the rooms. Make sure you bring your own alarm clock, hair dryer, etc. This is a good choice if you want a convenient location in the heart of the charming village of Amana and will spend time in your motel room only to sleep.

The main perk is being within easy walking distance of Amana's restaurants and shops. Everything is less than three blocks away. The Guest House Motor Inn/Guest House Motel rooms are clean and comfortable, with a nicer, cleaner overall building and more spacious rooms than a typical motel. There are similar amenities as a motel in terms of simpler linens, dixie cups in the bathroom, a bar of soap but no shampoo, no iron/board in the room. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I'd happily stay here again. It's not a romantic or upscale spot like a B&B, but a nice value and super location for enjoying the Amana colonies.
