“Great value hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

Very pleased with this hotel. Quiet, nice room. And the lobby area is great, modern style. There is a bar and restaurant in the lobby area. They are decent and a good value. Oh yeah--A casino is attached! :)

Had king room and was nice. Includes tv, fridge in room. Free WiFi or internet available. Plenty of overstuffed pillows available. Personal safe in room. Plenty of hot water in shower. Daily cleaning covered all the bases. Second floor feeds into smoking side of casino. If you want to avoid this, you have to go long way around. Nice exercise room, pool and hot tub area, which I had to myself entire time. Hot tub temp was more tepid, but had really nice jets. Bar area with Starbucks was great and had friendly staff. Meadows cafe and Triple Crown Eatery had good food for decent price, on site. Casino seemed to have enough variety to keep people entertained. Was some episodes of loud hallway noise with people coming/going all hours, maybe due to my particular room proximity to casino. Room to room noise through walls was minimal. No bed bugs, or indication of them noted. Yes, I checked! Also had individual Keurig coffee maker in room, with decent choic or reg or decaf coffee or even tea...a nice touch. Don't forget your key card wherever you go. Elevators are private access only with room card, as are other amenities. Easy interstate access and within striking distance of plenty of entertainment.

My wife and I have stayed here twice in the last month. We sought it out, mostly, to enjoy the thoroughbred racing but were pleasantly surprised by all of the accommodations. The property itself is very well maintained and parking was no problem. The hotel is new and as such is very pleasing to the eye. The front desk personnel are very nice and professional. We were impressed with little security features such as needing your room key to use the elevator and to enter into the hotel through exterior doors. The rooms are very clean and spacious for a weekend stay. We have stayed in a King regular room and a King Jr. Suite and were very happy with both. The beds are particularly comfortable. Our only complaint is that the bathroom doors in the junior suite slide open/closed instead of closing like a regular door. My wife noticed a gap between the door and the wall (when the door is closed) that provides a view of the shower from one side and the bathroom mirror from the other. Not a big deal to us married folks but if you are shy and staying with a friend or a co-worker it could be akward! Housekeeping kept our room well maintained. The racetrack facility is very nice and family friendly with good food and plenty of outdoor seating which is also smoke-free. The casino is HUGE with simulcast races in the clubhouse. We are not smokers but were not overwhelmed in the least by the smoking environment in the casino. Lastly, AJ's Steakhouse is very good! Awesome place, we plan on going back again this summer and recommend it!!

Room Tip: Casino access is on the 2nd floor. We stayed on the 4th floor and found it to be very peaceful!

From the outside, it looks nice, but not really special. But from the moment you walk in, you see how nice it really is. Our room was very nicely appointed with a separate bedroom with king size bed,. A living area had a couch that pulled out into a twin bed and a nice flat screen TV. There also was an area between the two rooms with a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator. All was nicely decorated and very clean, quiet and comfortable...even with a large wedding, a couple of family reunions and another event going on in the hotel at the same time. There also is a very nice cafe in the hotel. We ate breakfast thee twice. It was tasty and affordable.

My husband and I travelled to Ankeny for a birthday party. We decided to stop here for a little gambling. There was some entertainment in the form of a band playing by the large windows overlooking the track. They were pretty good so we decided to stay and watch them. Since it was late we called over to the hotel to see about getting a room, they had two left so we took the room with two queen beds handicap accessible. The hotel lobby was very nice with a contemporary decor. We were on the fourth floor and there was zero noise from the casino. You also had to use your room card to access the hotel floors which is a nice safety feature. Our room was very large, though I'm not sure they are all this large since ours was a handicap room. Nicely decorated in calming colors and a contemporary theme to match the lobby. The bed was super comfortable as were the abundance of pillows. I didn't bring a suit but would have loved to have tried out the saltwater pool as it looked very nice. We will definitely stay here again!

Nicely appointed rooms although I would have expected for a new build the bathrooms would have been larger, as would the sleeping rooms for a casino environment. The furniture ad appointments in the room are very nice, but the room feels a little cramped. Ok check in service but nothing extraordinary.

I often end up being booked to do an educational meeting in a casino. My general impression has been that casinos are gilt paint on top of cheap constructions. Not so with this one. It is a very nice operation. The rooms are well maintained, clean and good quality furnishings. The building and grounds are well-groomed and attractive.

The tv selection was good...often casino hotels offer a boring minimum selection...guess why?

The restaurant is good; nothing creative, but well prepared steaks, salads, deserts. I thought the NY Strip was very tasty, and the chocolate cake ("Fantasy"?) was better than most.

The minor downside was it has a huge asphalt parking lot in order to accommodate the horse track attached to the casino. Going for a walk was a bit stark.

Temperature control was sluggish. The shower temp was ok, but I had it maxed out; I'd have liked the option of making it a touch warmer...too "safe" a temp limit.

The gaming area was your usual fare. I don't care for gambling, so am not a good judge of that side. Noisy, smoky and dazzling.

Overall, a good hotel. I'd stay there again.
