“Loved This Place...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

We drove up to the front and we were very impressed. Nice gardens in the front...easy parking to unpack car and quick check-in..even got our keys early. We wheeled our stuff and the lobby was clean and nice and the rest of the area walking into the elevator was also very impressive. The room itself was basic. Two queen beds and a decent size bathroom. The room is a little dated but ok for sleeping. When we wanted to play board games we went to the room that has board games and plenty of tables and chairs. They also have game room with arcade type games downstairs and a ping pong table to play with.. The best part of this hotel is the grounds. Nice lake and great hiking trails. Horseback riding and boating..with a little extra money was great. We rented two fishing boats and it was pretty easy to handle. This place is the type of place we would try getting back to. Restaurant was good for breakfast but ok for dinner. There are nearby places that are a little better to eat Clay's and Lake George Retreat..both good choices for dinner. I recommend this hotel for relaxation and outdoor stuff. Oh yeh they also have a volley ball court (or two) and you could rent the balls to play. Alot of fun...tks to a great place

We stayed at this resort the week after July 4th to attend a family reunion. We had the opportunity to stay in the old hotel section and the new "horseshoe" section. The old section of the hotel has small rooms which can feel a bit cramped at times, the new rooms in the horseshoe section of the hotel are quite spacious and have a nicer feel to them.

The amenities on site are excellent. A gift shop, a cafe, and a restaurant. We found the gift shop helpful for some small items we left at home. The cafe was perfect for sandwiches at lunch, or ice cream as a snack. The onsite restaurant has both a buffet and menu items to order from, we found the buffet to be overpriced unless you are REALLY hungry. Often times the buffet contained items you could order directly from the menu... so if you take a gander at the buffet and like the look of the meatloaf, order from the menu for a few bucks cheaper. For breakfast, the buffet seemed to be better priced along with the menu items.

As for activities, we spent most of our days relaxing on the beach or under the shade of the nearby trees. There are also great hiking trails all around the park to explore. The nearby town has anything that civilization can provide.

Overall a nice place and one that my family returns to year after year for our reunion.

Room Tip: If you like spacious rooms, stay in the newer horseshoe section of the Inn

Service was superb, very friendly and helpful. Even sent an anniversary card...

But, beds were way too soft. Backache for two days course we have a Sleep number bed at home.

Really enjoyed the hummingbirds!

Room Tip: Rooms in historic section much more interesting and better view of the lake if you ask for lake view...

I've stayed here once in the fall and once in the summer. I love camping, so the fact that it feels like a campground, but with real beds/bunk-beds is a treat for me. The meals are a bit overpriced, but it's nice to sit in the cabin-like dining room, overlooking the lake. The lake is very shallow. In this respect, it's great for kids and also has a jungle gym adjacent. There's a fantastic hiking trail through the wetlands and bike rentals that are good for the family or singles vacation. The outlets are so close, as well as some nice restaurants.

I have been staying here for the past 40+ years and consider it my second home. I have been to around 60 countries and stayed in countless hotels and this place for the money is as good as it gets. The rooms are pretty much like a motor hotel, but always clean and spacious (as long as you get in the new part of the hotel "Horseshoe". Friendly staff who usually help out in every way they can.

The lake is gorgeous and the toboggan in the winter is a blast.

Room Tip: Stay in the "Horseshoe"

We were on a cross country road trip and it was getting to the evening hour when we look for a hotel. We had stopped at the Indiana welcome center and saw an ad for the Potowatami Inn in the guidebook. Since we like to avoid chain motels and restaurants when we can find charm, we thought we would give it a try. We are so glad we did.

It is inside the Pokagon State Park, so we were obligated to pay the park fee - something like $5-7. We arrived at the Inn, and it was charming in an old-style campy way. Reminded me of summer camp. It was calm, the staff was nice and welcoming, and the setting was rustic and lovely. The rooms were basic, but nicely decorated and clean. It was good value for the money - about the same as a Comfort Inn but with more personality. We ate dinner and breakfast in their dining room - the same comments. Basic food and service, but homey and nice and not too expensive. You could not get wine or a cocktail, as it is a state park.

We would definately stay there again - it has a nice charm and is close to the Interstate. Cute gift shop too, with all sorts of woodland kitsch items.

The inn is on the shore of a natural lake in northeast Indiana. The setting is attractive and there are boats for rent and a small man-made beach. Inside there are many areas for quiet conversation and socializing. Service is Indiana friendly. New Yorkers may be put off at being greeted as "honey" and "dear" but that's their problem. Here in the sticks we take more offense at "Good evening, sir" in a fake French accent. The dining room has a limited menu but everything we had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was very good. No beer, wine, or liquor is available. This is a historic hotel with some new additions. Our room in a new wing was quite adequate with comfortable but not luxurious beds. The water supply was a little quirky, but the temperature was stable and there was plenty of hot. Can't comment on the historic rooms, but I tend to make allowance in exchange for history. Guests at the inn tend to be an older crowd, but there are plenty of kids around.
