We were headed to the theater in Aurora and looked in Trip Advisor for some ideas as to where to have dinner. On the basis of the very favorable reviews, we selected Chef Amaury's. Given the universally positive reviews, I am sorry to have to say our experience was mixed, at best.
First, the service. The waitress was very attentive, friendly, and seemed interested in making our experience a positive one. She could not, however, overcome the fact that it too nearly an hour for our food to arrive after the order was put in.
Now, the food. One of us had a steak, and it was perfectly prepared, juicy and tender. The side of purple potatoes were tasty and balanced the meat. Another had the shrimp risotto. There were five shrimp served over the bed of rice and vegetables. The cheese sauce was a little heavy and the dish was quite salty, which made it difficult to eat. My wife and I are vegans, so we asked for something without meat. The chef offered to make us each a place of vegetables served over rice. It was the same rice used in the risotto, and without the cheese sauce and extra salt it was quite tasty. However, the vegetables were very skimpy and we had to hunt for them. Unlike the shimp risotto, which had plenty of veggies, we had no mushrooms and no kale. So we skipped the meat, got fewer veggies, but were charged the same price as the shrimp risotto.
Deserts were really small portions, but tasty.
So for us, the slow kitchen, the salty risotto, and the skimpy veggies in our rice left us with an unsatisfying experience.
