Our 10 & 12 year olds were in the children's program on July 14/05 in the morning session. We had booked early on-line (back in May) as we knew there would be limited spots.
When we were arrived, our 12 year old was rather apprehensive as the majority of kids in the program were probably an average age of 8 and she felt very much out of place. However, they divided the larger group into three smaller groups and there were only 4 children in our group, including our two girls, a boy probably around 9 and a late arrival who was only about 4, but very cute, so his being younger didn't matter.
The program is divided into sections. The first section they are taught a variety of things, such as about dolpins in general, being environmentally friendly, etc. The second section is the time with the dolphins. Each group of children (there were 3 groups) had time with 3 different dolphins. They got to touch them, kiss them and play with them. In total they spent about 30 minutes with the dolphins, which was more than we actually expected. They were thoroughly pleased. They then went onto the sting rays. They learned about them, but for obvious safety reasons were not allowed in the water with them. The fourth section was meeting and feeding two sea turtles. They each got to feed both of them several times. Finally, they went down to the sea and got to swim and learn a few other things.
In total, the program lasted 2 hours. Parents were allowed to tag along and watch from a distance and take as many photos as they wished.
The total cost for both of our girls was $340.00 US. This sounds like alot, but we have nothing similar to this near us and we felt that it was well worth it, particularly since our younger daughter has been in love with dolphins and whales for a couple of years now. Both of them learned some things that they did not know. We utilized valet parking, but you can get a special ticket at DQ and it only cost $4.00. All in all it was a perfect morning!
