“Spreck's is the best of Maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2012

For us, Sprecklesville and Sprecks Plantation House was the perfect base for our two week stay in Maui. We're active and were not looking for accomodations we would necessarily spend a lot of time in. Sprecks is central to windsurfing beaches, close to Paia (which we love), close to the Haleakala Crater (which we road our bikes up!) and close to Kahalui (which we frequented for beer runs and fresh seafood). That said, the facilities at the Plantation House fit the bill - recently reno'd as mentioned by others, and with amenities like gas bbq's, outdoor showers and laundry which made life easy. All in all, highly recommended.

Immaculate, peaceful, private and beautiful! I was in Plumeria suite for a month. It was spacious and had everything I needed and wanted. The owner, Carolyn is welcoming and kind. Her kitty, Puddy greets everyone in the driveway at night. Close to the airport, Paia, surfing beaches, and walking distance to baby beach for those with little ones.Easy to get to Lahaina and Kihei from here. Some airplane noise, no traffic noise at all; mostly just the wind in the trees and bird-sounds..
Not for those who require ocean vista from their rooms or for the party types---although both experiences are not far from here

We recently stayed at Spreck's in January 2012 in the Bamboo studio and Mango suite The units are beautifully renovated with brand new everything, including owners. The units kitchens are well stocked with everything you need for preparing meals "at home". The bamboo studio has a fabulous outdoor shower which was awesome. The Mango suite is very private with a front lanai which looks out at Haleakala crater. The privacy of Spreck's was just what we needed. The 5 minute walk to the beach was well worth it. The beach was basically deserted every time we went there! Very relaxing. The location on the North Shore is fantastic, close to the airport and the little town of Paia. Spreck's is defiantly the place to stay if your looking for a relaxing vacation place. We will definitely be returning to Spreck's on our next trip to Maui

I stayed @ Spreck's Plantation last week and it worked out great! The property is under new ownership and the new owners have renovated everything! The location is fantastic on the North Shore. It is very easy to get to from the airport and is a bike ride away from Paia and many other beaches. If you're looking for a low key place to spend your time while on Maui this is it!

My husband and I had decided to combine a conference with a holiday to Maui. For the first 10 days we stayed in Haiku then when the conference started we moved into the Bamboo Studio which is part of The Plantation House, so as we would be with the rest of the group attending the conference. We had picked the accommodation from a list provided to us by the conference organizers. After viewing the accommodation on The Plantation House website we decided on the Bamboo Studio.
We moved into the accommodation the day before the conference started and were very disappointed. The room is very small, dark and dingy, it is not how it appears in the photos provided on the website. Sleeping was difficult as the air conditioner is very loud and sits above the bed. After turning it of we then had to put up with the noise of the fridge which was very loud along with planes taking of and landing and being close to a motorway..........the traffic. We attended the conference on the very tied.
There is only one shower which is outside, we took it for granted that we would also have an in door shower as well, our mistake. So we ended up having showers in all weather and because we were next to the laundry we would have to wait on anyone using the laundry before leaving the shower as you could see through the fence.
If you don't mind holidaying like this then there would not be a problem but unfortunately it did not suit us.

In February of 2011 we purchased Sprecks Plantation House and spent 6 months totally renovating the property. We used a professional contractor as well as an interior designer and the place has been transformed. The outdoor shower is very private now and although not for everyone we wish all our units had this unique feature. The laundry facility has been relocated so that problem should no longer be a factor. As far as airplane noise it is true we are on that corner of the island which is close to the airport. The people that enjoy this part of the island feel it is a small price to pay made up for by the great location, especially for surfers, kitesurfers and windsurfers. If you are looking for the resort condo experience then this is not the place for you. Other than the airplane noise it is really a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood. The Hana Highway is at least three blocks away and rarely noticeable. The roar of the surf on a large north swell is much more likely to get your attention.

two posters, opposite ends of the spectrum. Very understandable . Myself and my wife have gone many times (6) . Close friends as well go here. Many of us as a group have .all gone to sprecks house. We stayed here three years back, and counting further back to the year 2000.
Maui county has made it harder to stay at places like this since then but i had to write a review.
If you see accomodations at anything near 100 USD a night in Maui, and for a place like this,
think deal ,
Fire sale ,
doorbreaker.
If your thinking hotel, or high priced hotel ie: Grand Wailea yes think again this isnt it .
In defense of this place , it is clean, its close walking distance to a great beach, on the hana highway and near the funky town of Paia.
Staying here will bring you back to maui that much sooner as you will saves hundred if not thousands of dollars versus most hotel and the rates they charge.
But in defence of the naysayers yes, hanging around here all day is not very fun , the grounds are OK it is in a neighboiurhood, BUT a very quiet one.
But its not a hovel. Some neighbours in other suites can bne noisy but that goes or a hotel too.
We use it as a base for other adventures. We cook here do our laundry here and basically chill before the next day.
In the end if your considering staying put while in Maui your wasting your time , really ! there so much to do you should never see the inside of your room much.
The webpage does make it look better. That goes for many things . AND it is an old plantation house.Albeit an upgraded one.
If your a person who likes all inclusives, ....................dont bother with maui. Its not for you. Unless you are very rich, but then you wouldnt be on this website would you.

It was interesting, that I read the other review of this place and felt almost angry. My girlfriend and I stayed in the Plumeria in July of 05 for $105 per night in one of the best locations for windsurfing, and beaches on the island when the other places wanted almost $200 in this area. WE LOVED IT! I'll give it to the other reviewer that the house isn't exactly a sugar plantation, which is perhaps what she expected, but it was a charming old plantation style house with all of the things we needed. I talked to the manager, (Jen, I think her name was) who told me that the place was just now remodelled and it made me wonder if the other renter was there before the remodel. We were welcomed to Sprecks Plantation House by new linens, and outdoor patio furnature that was beatiful teak wood, and enjoyed sitting on our covered lanai through 2 long rain showers in the evenings. From our unit, there is a slight Haleakala view we discovered as we sipped our coffee. The pathway was a little dimly lit in the evening, and the manager mentioned that she would take care of it immediately, and by the next evening, there were new lights up on all of the gates and along the pathway. Talk about service! Well, I guess it's all in your expectations. If you are expecting a Wailea Condo, then don't stay here, but if you want an affordable place to stay with the best location on the north shore, you can't find a better deal, especially if you windsurf or kiteboard. I will go back and stay here any time.
