“A Most Unique South Maui Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Bully's Burgers. Great burgers in South Maui! You won't believe it when you see it. But you will when you taste it. Especially if you carefully order your burger to make it your own version of the best burger in paradise.
Been there today. Going back tomorrow. Bully's. Ask him for a franchise in your city. Snooze, you lose.
It's on the road past Hana. Way past Hana. Off the grid. Solar-powered. Just before the Tedeschi Winery Tasting Room, q.v.
Get some of Tedeschi's Pineapple Wine -- I like the Blanc -- dry with a pineapple nose and a surprise back. Awesome. Who knew a pineapple could be so approachable?

IMHO: if you go to Maui and you don't do Bully's, you haven't done Maui. Unless you're Oprah -- then you own much of Maui. (Including a nice road the rest-of-us would like to be able to drive.)
(Note to Oprah: In your will, could you leave your private road to the Maui government so we can in the future circumnavigate the island at makai level, eh?)

“Quirky but worth a stop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

If you're doing the fully Hana loop (ie. driving the road to Hana and then continuing on west around the other side) this is one of the very few places to eat. We did the full loop (wife and I, and our 4 kids ages 19, 16, 14 and 5) and had read about Bully's. By the time we got there we were starving and tired. Didn't know what to expect. Here's the skinny - it's basically a shack that a rancher has put up. The woman who cooked and served us was very nice (moved there from Alaska). View of the ocean. Felt like the middle of nowhere.

The burger was good, lots of condiment options. Meat seemed kind of lean (this is 100% grass fed beef) so it wasn't the gooey, melt in your hand type thing, but we were starving, it was tasty and hit the spot.

“Adventures in dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

I read about Bully's on Trip Advisor and wanted to check it out. When I mentioned it to the family everyone was intrigued so all 7 of us piled into the mini van and headed upcountry. The drive was very scenic and we stopped along the way to take pictures, check out the winery and investigate the different plants we came across.

Bully's was easy to find, with plenty of parking. We wandered over to the 'shack' and I was amused by the skeptical looks on everyone's face. The setting is great but the surroundings were a bit unkempt. The garbage cans were very full, there were a few dogs running around and, oddly, a pig in a pen between the parking and the shack. The smell was a bit strong from the pig but we were determined to try these burgers.

After ordering we wandered around and took pictures of all the interesting stuff while the 'chef' stood at the BBQ and began cooking our burgers. He was fun to talk to and handled the burgers with care, making sure things were sanitary in spite of the rustic appearance of the facilities.

After about 15 minutes our burgers were ready and they were most certainly worth the wait. Perfectly cooked, juicy, tasty and unique flavors, topped with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and some really cool pickles. Condiments were available if you wanted mustard, ketchup etc. but my Agave mushroom burger needed nothing. It was perfect just the way it came.

We chatted with the chef, watched the sun set and ate our delicious burgers while sitting out at a picnic table on the side of a volcano surrounded by ranch land. Certainly not your average, ordinary meal. No waitress, no washrooms, no place settings, just really great food in a very unique setting.

The only disappointment about our trip to Bully's was the fact that we only made it out once. I am certain that each of our group would have happily eaten those burgers every day, we just ran out of days. Next time this will be the first meal I eat out on Maui. Can't wait.
