“Kai Kanani Whale Watch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

If whale watching is on your mind, make sure you do it with Kai Kanani. They pick up passengers right at the beach in front of the Makena Beach Resort. This is no ordinary whale watching boat. It is a 60' catamaran so it was very comfortable and having twin engines they were able to manuever to the best position for watching. At ten minutes out, we began sighting whales and continued for the next two hours. As a bonus, they were serving great local craft beer onboard. An awesome afternoon !

“so beautiful”

clear water and secluded with the resort; did not have to go far! Lifeguards and staff attentive but not buggy!

“snorkeling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We took the opportunity to try to see some turtles at this beach. We didn't go out far enough but others before us had seen them. The coral is fantastic and much of it was a very bright yellow. Make sure you don't touch it as it can cut you and it will die after you do. We did see small fish and had lots of fun.

“Whatever you want to call this beach it's still the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Second visit to Maui and we still love this beach the best. We like to go around 9 am on a weekday before it gets too crazy so we get a little quiet time. It's Al's fun when the people show up to boogie board & body surf but we cut out before noon when the crowds pack it in. Beautiful long sand beach peaceful view without a resort in sight love it!

“Surf can be rough, beautiful, big beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

We went the first week of March and the water was a little rough, so it wasn't the best area to snorkel for inexperienced snorkelers or Kids. It's not too busy and the sand is wonderful. It also has two life guard stations. I went snorkeling towards the right side and around the point which leads you to Little Beach (nude optional). I was somewhat disappointed with the coral...it appears dead and grey. I also only saw maybe 5 different types of fish, however, I did see 2 sea turtles which was fantastic!
