“Best Snorkeling Ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

This is a small cove, and was labeled as such on our map. it's like being in an aquarium- there were so many fish!! The road cuts right along side of it and is quite narrow with no shoulder and you have to pass the cove and park down the road at a public parking area. The side closest to the parking is very rocky and the other side has an entrance sign and a sloped slab you can walk down to enter more easily. It was very crowded but I have snorkeled all over Hawaii, the Caribbean, and other than the Great Barrier Reef, have never seen so many and such a variety of fish at one time.

We couldn't get enough of this place! I wish we had more time because it was gorgeous in every way! Clear water, healthy coral, lots of fish and turtles everywhere!

“Good Snorkeling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Ahihi Bay is a nice snorkeling area. Make sure you enter from the right of the beach, as some sections are protected. The coral was especially unique at this beach. We went early and had no trouble finding parking, but by the time we left there were quite a few more people coming.

“AKA La Perouse: Don't go for the dolphins but consider if your staying on the southern part of the island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

We headed here in the hopes of a rare Dolphin sighting. Its apparently possible but quite rare. We spoke with a ranger there who said its only possible in the very early hours, once the pod is disturbed they depart and that its also discouraged as it can disrupt the pods habits. We were there by 7:30-8am and thats not early enough for the record. Regardless, its not a bad place to snorkel. Clarity was not as good as some other places on the island. Also found it rockier and wavier. The coral structure was excellent though and you'll see abundant life. Beach has a little sand but mostly rock (the area is a lava field after all). Not a bad place to hang out though or visit for a change of beach. Worth the visit but would argue there are better spots depending on where your staying. This location approaches the southern most tip of the island so it's probably a good option if your staying nearby but I wouldn't go extremely out of your way given some of the other choices.

“Great place to snorkel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We snorkelled at four different places in Maui and Kauai and Ahihi was by far the best. We went first thing in the morning and there was only one other couple. The water was clear and the views were great. Several sea turtles and lots of really colorful fish. Ahihi spoiled us for all of our other snorkel adventures!
