Black Rock at Sheraton is a great place to swim, snorkel and cliff dive! They have official timings to jump off the black rock, but people jump off it all the time. The water was really clear, sand was soft and beach was a great place to hang out. We saw some relaly colorful fishes here

Stayed at the Sheraton Maui and had some family take the plunge, so thought I'd try it as well. Not for the faint of heart, or those who follow the straight and narrow - numerous signs indicating diving is not allowed and is dangerous. Lots of fun!

We snorkeled around Black Rock and saw two endangered green tutored within minutes. With the surging of the tides it was hard to maintain the required distance. In fact, we saw the first one when it almost hit us with a big surge.

Some people were swimming with just masks and no fins. I recommend wearing fins because the water surges against the black rocks and it's easier to avoid the rocks (and turtles) if you have fins.

Access is a big pain. We finally gave up and paid to park at one of the big resorts which own all of the property along the beach. Maui should provide public access to the public beach. Until then - pay for parking and go see the turtles.

We loved the endless view of Ka'anapali Beach. Black Rock is very popular but you can always find a spot on the endless beach. I wouldn't recommend this beach for swimming with the little ones as the waves literally crash onto the shore and can drag you away. We did snorkel past Black Rock and saw stunning views underwater of coral and sea life. Parking at the Sheraton is $25.

The day we choose to snorkel here was not at all a safe day to be out in the water. Rental staff were more interested in everyone's safety than making a buck! Thank you!!!!! Will go another day as other people told us it was a great experience.
