“Views are outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

While approaching Lanai from Manele Bay, one cannot see the unbelievable view that is from Hulopoe Bay. It is about a 10 minute walk over to Hulopoe Bay. Here there are lots of different birdlife, including several type of colorful cardinals and doves at the bay. When arriving at Hulopoe Bay, take a short 5 min. walk on the left side to a beautiful secluded cove that provides an outstanding view of sea arches on one side and the Puu Pehe Islet on the other side. The islet is a large rock that is an outcrop surrounding a hidden cove. It is so scenic and isolated that there is not a single person at this cove! The beautiful water and surroundings offer a picture perfect scene of natural Hawaii at its best! Must go when visiting Lanai!

“Good beach to spend an afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

This is a great beach to snorkel, boogie board, or depending on the day do a little surfing.
It is also a great place to just sit and watch all the beach activity. The kids seem to really love playing in the surf here. There are also clean facilities here as well as picnic areas with grills to cook on. Just a pleasant place for the whole family to spend an afternoon.

“Not as good as Ka'anpali”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

We went to this beach today. Took the ferry over from Maui (we are staying at Ka'anapali) for the day and were disappointed. Yes, we saw the spinner dolphins and about 8 people WAY OUT trying to swim with them (can you say shark bait - they were nuts in my opinion). We walked from the ferry to the beach and it was only a 5-10 minute walk. Beach was large, sandy and the waves were breaking with a good undertow. Kids seemed to have fun body surfing. Anyway I am very light skinned so was hoping we could rent an umbrella. Unless you are a guest at Four Season's umbrellas are NOT available for rent ! Yes, there is shade on the outskirts but it was only my husband and I so we opted to spread out on the sunny beach so one of us could stay with our valuables and be the "lifeguard on duty" while the other swam. There was a large hill going down to the water so if one did stay on the outskirts they could not see their loved one.

Personally I like Ka'anapali better. We could have stayed at our condo, rented beach chairs WITH umbrellas and enjoyed a much calmer ocean. We almost stayed at this Four Seasons and am glad we opted for MAUI ! As a side note: we were supposed to go back to Maui on the 4:30 ferry and when I called the ferry to ask if we could get on the earlier ferry they had no problem changing, a definate plus !

“spinner dolphins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

almost every day the dolphins come in to rest. The beach signs say not to swim with them but the dolphins come to swim with the tourists. The snorkeling is very good and then when we swam back to the beach the dolphin pod approached US .. about 15 individuals. Lovely spontaneous experience. We spent the rest of the day watching them "spinning" -- jumping out of the water. This is a great eco adventure day...

“Clean beach, good snorkeling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We enjoyed our visits to Hulopoe Beach. When the surf was breaking because of the high winds, we didn't venture in, but when the wind died down, the swimming and snorkeling (left side) of beach was good. We saw a variety of fish and live coral. Access with gear is easy. There wasn't any seaweed and although the previous days were windy, the visibility was great. There are many picnic tables, lots of trees for shade and a clean washroom close by. Of course, once the waves settled down, there were a couple of groups of snorkelers from the hotel, so go early in the day.
The spinner dolphins returned during our four days on Lanai, but it is advised to stay clear of these intriguing animals and view them from afar.
