This track doesn't get the attention of its bigger brother at the Mauna Kea or the courses at the Mauna Lani, but it is a much better value and a heck of a lot of fun. The staff were very professional and friendly. It has a small driving range with free balls, a practice bunker and chipping area and putting green all of which were very nice. We began our round at 12:40 with no one ahead or behind us and completed a leisurely round in 4 hours under the hot Hawaii sun. The course wends up and down a long hillside between the furrows of lava. It's obvious a great amount of thought was given to the layout and to disturbing as little of the natural environment as possible. The holes tend to flow with the natural gradients of the land. There are many swales and a number of surprises to keep it interesting. Each hole is separated from the others so at times it feels as though you're the only ones out there. Each hole is different. Many have gorgeous, if distant, views of the ocean. Most fairways have generous landing areas narrowing towards the greens. The fairways were in excellent condition. The greens were lightning fast and true even though they'd recently been sanded. The first nine found many of our putts past and short of the hole as we alternated between aggressive and tentative trying to gauge the speed. If you keep your ball in the short grass or first cut of rough, you'll probably have a great time. Find yourself in the foot-long fescue (?) and it'll be a long day. This is a very well designed, challenging yet fair, beautiful, interesting, and very well maintained course for all levels of golfers.
