Hawaii was on our Bucket List, so when we planned a vacation there, we decided that the island cruise on the Pride of America (Norwegian Cruise Lines) was the best way to visit many different attractions. This tour was one of the ship's shore excursions (we also used Roberts Tours, which are cheaper, but because of timing considerations we did this tour through the ship). Our driver was Wally, and he did a fantastic job of getting us to all the overlooks in Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. While we knew we would not see any molten lava, we did see an ongoing eruption on Kilauea, as well as the venting of gases in many locations around the park. We visited the Lua Manu lava field and walked through the lava tube. We were fortunate in having perfect weather conditions for this tour. The park was the thing my husband wanted to see the most, and it exceeded his expectations. The entire trip, including the drive from Hilo, was about 5 1/2 hours. The fee involved was for the tour, which included admission into the National Park. The other thing we did that day was a helicopter ride out of Hilo through Safari Helicopter Tours, which was the highlight of our trip and which I will try to review separately.
