“Nice Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2009

Nice place overall and in a good location. I upgraded to a suite and was well worth the extra money with seperate rooms and a hottub. Updated rooms with flat screen TV's with digital cable and HBO channels. Bedding was comfortable and nice pillow selection. Living room was large with nice couch, chair, tables and a wet bar with sink and fridge. Housekeeping could have been better and had some long hairs in the room when I checked in, water stains on curtains (from overflow?), and some mold in bathtub.

Hotel had nice restaurant and bar, room service, and nice pool area. Pool area was nice but not kept up well. Always out of towels, full of bugs inside, and dirty. Pool was also not clean. Hottub was nice and hot.

Room service was good but expensive. Better deals on soups and apitizers, not on main courses. Soups were excellent.

Overall a nice stay at this hotel. I'm glad that they except pets too.

This is one of two hotels in Augusta I stay in. The people are great, the bartenders are really nice and I usually just get dinner in there since I don't like eating alone. The hotel has a huge entry and loads of places to meet clients. The rooms are newly removed and have all the things that make it easy to stay. Hndreds of chanells of tv just like home. Really nice beds and the hotel sits far off the highway so no noise.

Reading some past reviews I was scared to stay here but the place is A-OK. Typical Doubletree, rooms are up to date with comfortable beds, flat screen TV, wireless etc. Bathroom is small but very modern with tile and large wood vanity. Ftiness center has 2 elipticals, 2 tredmills, bike and free weights. Locations is not good, right on the highway with no eateries within walking distance although I am told the shuttle will take to a strip of them a mile or so down the road.

We stayed at the Doubletree because there was a convention in town and the hotel choices were slim. It is in a difficult to get to location due to construction.
Pro's - Plenty of parking. Well-lighted lot. Staff is friendly.
Cons -- Interior of the hotel (from the 1980's lobby to the rickety elevators to the dingy rooms) is in desperate need of a makeover. We upgraded to a suite in the hopes that it would be in better shape than the rest of the place. It was not. Half of the light bulbs were burned out, the whirlpool shot out brown water and the towels were very dirty. The shower head came off in my hand when I was adjusting it.
When we went to the front desk and told them about the lights, towels, etc, They were all very sorry to hear that but no adjustments were offered. They were pleasant, but pleasant did nothing to improve the situation in my room.
No maintenance person was available to fix the shower so my husband brought in a couple of tools from the car and took care of it. It was not how we wanted to spend our evening....

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2008

I stayed here for 16 nights for a business trip and was underwhelmed by the property. This was my first stay at a Doubletree and probably won't be my last, but I have to say that they need to make some changes to several areas.

I am sure that one of the new managers, Lina, will be an asset to improving several areas but I won't know until I come back which could be a while.

Room:
The rooms are comfortable and A/C was great. Cleaning service didn't offer the possibility of reusing towels, which could save the hotel quite a bit of $$ if they didn't wash your towel every day. Bathroom was painfully small, couldn't open the door all the way if someone is sitting on the toilet. Bathtub fixtures are due for an upgrade, especially the shower heads. The refrigerator and microwaves are old and are brought to your room only if requested (add $10 for each appliance per day? JEEZ!) They set them up wherever you want them but they are pretty beat up from moving in and out of rooms all the time.

In-hotel services:
Drinks at the bar are pretty expensive but the bartenders are very friendly and happy to serve. (Thanks Lina & Betty Jane!) The breakfast is overpriced for what they offer. If I'm paying $10+ I expect to see some real eggs, some bacon, and some free fresh-brewed coffee. Most days I would go to Waffle House for breakfast.

Elevators are a little buggy and one door had a tendency to open and close a couple times before taking you to your floor. Stair well doors have horrible latches and look more like something you would see at a truck-stop motel 6.

Utilities:
Internet service was painfully slow at times and made it nearly impossible to do anything but read email. I was not impressed with the Cable TV that had a tendency to come in very choppy and look like static at random times.

Not the hotel's fault but should be noted: The highways around Augusta are all torn up due to construction and I got lost a couple times. Hopefully next time I come back to Augusta there will be a wonderful new interchange right next to the hotel.

We have stayed in the Doubletree two times with two small children, and we have fallen in love with this hotel! Each time we have booked a jr. suite (seperated bedroom with pullout sofa in "parlor"). Our boys love the warm chocolate chip cookies upon arrival - and available anytime at the front desk -, the indoor waterfall and glassed in elevator. The rooms are larger than an average hotel room and the whirlpool bathtub is more like a big swimming pool for a 2 year old! The hotel has always been clean and the staff has always been more than happy to help with any needs. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant is pretty good - they need to work on the pancakes- but the coffee, grits, sausage gravy and biscuits, pastry and cereal selections are pretty good (AND they even have real highchairs available). One note to those with small children staying on a Friday night: make sure you book a room NOT by the balcony. The restaurant has live jazz music until about 9:30 pm. It's not real loud or raucous; however, if you're trying to get a 2yr old to sleep, it's not easy! We will definitely be staying here anytime we come to Augusta!

  • Liked — space in rooms and bathroom
  • Disliked — indoor pool not as clean as would have liked

This is a great rate for an above average hotel in a town with a lot of below average motels. Wonderful, clean rooms, friendly staff, free internet access in the rooms. Everything you would hope for from this chain. I had 3 small complains: room service forgot an item from my order (but they were super-fast!), the hot water was kind of hard to control in the shower, and i was in a room that in the middle of the hall, but had a window... to the HALL! LOL! So clearly i just kept that curtian closed!
