We stayed at the Amerisuites Augusta for 2 nights in July- I don't usually even write reviews but after reading the gross misrepresentations of this Hotel I felt compelled too. Here's the good, the bad and the normal. First off- the pictures you see of this hotel on most web sites with the circular drive and fountain AREN'T this hotel- which is stupid because the hotel is nicely landscaped, surrounded by trees and gardens and has a nice small kidney shaped pool in a courtyard with a picnic gazebo. It's adjacent to a suburban office park, so there is a lot of green space, and there are also picnic tables with grills to the rear under some trees. As for the terrible smell-- we were on a non smoking floor and there wasn't one- Augusta is hot and humid which tends to intensify and hold smells, and there was a slight perfumey smell, probably from the cleaners used. (I was so worried about this that I took a smokers candle with me, but it really wasn't a problem- I've seen a lot worse in 4 and 5 star hotels in tropical climates) There was no mold in our bathroom -- there were SLIGHT mildew stains under the soap holder but the shower curtain was clean, as was the toilet and sink area. The "Kitchen" area was a disapointment- it consists of a very small microwave, a tiny amount of counter space and a dorm sized fridge- and cabinet-- no sink- It's good for heating up pizza or making a sandwitch, not real cooking, although there are cups, plates and silverware for 4. As far as the rooms being small, the "suite" is comparable to a Comfort or Quality Suite, except that it has a floor to ceiling wall instead of the half wall. An opening (no door) connects the 2 rooms. (to the guy who said it was useless- for those of us with kids, it's VERY USEFULL- you can change your clothes in privacy while your kids sit on the loveseat and watch TV) There is only one tv, but how many can you watch at one time? The room itself was clean- no obvious stains, burns, etc on the carpet- the furniture is standard and was showing some wear and tear, but there was plenty of light, all the bulbs worked and my remote functioned just fine. The bountiful breakfast picture that looks like a buffet from someones wedding isn't what you get either, but there was a very good selection, including 4 kinds of cold cereal, muffins, 2 juices, waffles, eggs (prefab) and sausage, bagels, english muffins, pastries, yogurt and fruit. Also there was a nice selection of teas and coffee, plus a coffee maker, iron and ironing board in the room. The staff was fine- I got extra towells when I asked for them and there were clean towels available at the pool (one day it was very overchlorinated).
All in all, it's a basic 2 star property with a better than average free breakfast and nicer than average landscaping. It beats having you and your kids cramped up in a single room ( or on the pull out at grandma's)and it's about right for the price. I wouldn't want it for my wedding anniversary or honeymoon, but it's fine for an overnight or two on the road.
