I stay at this hotel for football games and football related activities every year. The staff is very helpful and friendly. After the 7+ hour drive up from Florida, I'm very happy to get to my "football home" in Athens.

This hotel is fine - it's pretty much what you expect in a motel chain in a college town, so don't read too much into the reviews that pan the decor or breakfast. It is clean, well-run and close to the school/downtown - and certainly for the price it is unbeatable.

I did want to pass on a really great experience we had when we stayed there in early December, however. I was extremely ill the morning we left, and so we were running behind on the checkout time (they are pretty militant about that!). At any rate, we left in a rather harried manner, and managed to leave behind an expensive digital camera. We figured it was a total loss - but in fact the maids found the camera and turned it in. When we called to find out about it, they checked promptly and shipped it back to us. It was a very refreshing experience and accordingly I highly recommend the Best Western in Athens.

I highly recommend the Colonial Inn - I've stayed there about 6 times and never had any problems. The rooms have always been immaculate, the beds are comfy, the curtains actually keep out light and the reception staff is extemely helpful. They even have a decent continental breakfast. The location is great - you're close to downtown, right across the street from The Varsity for a late-night snack and it's even within walking distance from The Grit and several historic neighborhoods. The only warning is that it's extremely popular, especially when any UGA events are going on - book early!

I just got back from a 14 month tour in Iraq and went to Athens to visit my sister at the University. It was real nice to have friendly Americans wait on me when I checked in at the Best Western. The rooms were very comfortable and the high speed internet was great. I'll definitely stay here the next time I go to Athens.
