I highly recommend the Colonial Inn - I've stayed there about 6 times and never had any problems. The rooms have always been immaculate, the beds are comfy, the curtains actually keep out light and the reception staff is extemely helpful. They even have a decent continental breakfast. The location is great - you're close to downtown, right across the street from The Varsity for a late-night snack and it's even within walking distance from The Grit and several historic neighborhoods. The only warning is that it's extremely popular, especially when any UGA events are going on - book early!

I just got back from a 14 month tour in Iraq and went to Athens to visit my sister at the University. It was real nice to have friendly Americans wait on me when I checked in at the Best Western. The rooms were very comfortable and the high speed internet was great. I'll definitely stay here the next time I go to Athens.

My daughter and son-in-law relocated to Athens, Georgia. My husband and son-in-law drove a moving truck from San Diego to Athens, GA in two days. The first night was the Best Western Inn and Suites in Abilene, Texas. I called ahead to confirm the reservation and advise the hotel they would be arriving late, tired and strung out. This hotel was great. The second night was booked for a two night stay in the Colonial Inn, Athens. Again I called ahead to advise they would be arriving after a 14 hour drive, late at night. I was assured their room would be held. Not so. When they arrived at the Colonial Inn they were told the rooms had been sold because our credit card was declined. They also claimed they called our home trying to contact me and left messages. Neither was true. The credit card had thousands of dollars available on it and no one called my home or cell phone. There were no rooms available, leaving my husband and son in law searching for a room at one in the morning. Luckily they found a room at the BullDog Inn. A little rough around the edges, but a good night's sleep. the Colonial inn outright lied and did nothing to help my husband find a room. In a town with few hotel/motel options they won our stamp of disapproval.

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The pool was sparkling clean. We had a great breakfast with lots of selections. We will stay here again.
