“Superb Colonels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We love B&Bs, and The Colonels just outside of Athens GA is absolutely top-notch. Colonel Mark is a fantastic host and chef. In addition to the two of us, we were there with our son and his 2 teenage daughters. Our granddaughters totally fell in love with both Colonel Mark, his breakfast feast, and the 'southern mansion and grounds.' The front rooms of the house were indeed built in 1860. Our elder granddaughter commented as we departed, "You take us to the most wonderful places and this one was the best." And, her younger sister agreed wholeheartedly.

My sweetie surprised me with a night at this wonderful bed and breakfast just a few short minutes from the downtown area of Athens, Ga. I felt like an absolute queen! It is like stepping back in time in two different places at once. The beauty of the antique belgian furniture was breathtaking. They have a security gate, so it felt safe and private. They also had horses and plenty of land to roam around. The home inside and out was exquisite and well kept. Our room was meticulously clean, and the huge bed was the softest I have ever slept in! The bathroom located right beside us was wonderful, huge tub with jets. Pampered!!! The host was terrific, the sweetest guy ever who made us a big beautiful pancake with the fruit of our choice, (strawberries make hearts) in his beautiful kitchen with the pot belly stove. I am so glad I had the pleasure of staying here, and will never forget the experience, Thanks Colonel, :-)

Room Tip: I would try to get #4 again..it was perfect. Quiet, and by a really cool bathroom.

I found the Colonels to be the best bed and breakfast I have ever visited! You truely feel like you have stepped back in time. I loved setting on the front porch and having coffee. Colonel Marc is a wonderful host and a fantastic cook. You simply love his breakfast which comes with the room. I have stayed there twice while visiting in Athens. Both times the rooms were excellent and beautiful. I will definately be going back and give high recommendations for Colonel Marc and his employees. They do a great job!

This 1860 plantation home is stunning! My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the start of our honeymoon trip, heading next to Savannah. Having never been to Athens, Colonel Mark gave several excellent recommendtions for eateries, tours, and sight-seeing around town. Although not right downtown, the location is excellent and not too far a drive. The beds were extremely comfortable, the breakfast superb, and the service of highest quality. We would definitely recommend The Colonels!

We stayed one night but wish it had been more. The house and grounds are breathtaking. Colonel Mark is someone we'd love to have dinner with just to hear his stories. Beds were incredibly comfortable and room was clean and well maintained. It's a little but of a drive from the main campus but it will be a our go to accomodations when we're back in town.

Room Tip: The breakfast is top of the line . . if you have a student at UGA, do them a favor and get them to...

We spent 1 night at The Colonels during a college tour with our daughter. We were running late and called to let them know. Colonel Mark was very gracious and greeted us when we finally got there. We stayed in a 2 room suite with shared bath. The home is furnished with period pieces, and the grounds around the house are immaculate.

The next morning, Colonel Mark had coffee waiting and breakfast was wonderful! We had to leave early, to make our tour of UGA and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Thank you for a great, but brief stay. We look forward to coming back and staying longer!

Renovated 1860 farmhouse and gracious host make this a timeless and classic stay distinct from other commercial alternatives. A great stay for those wanting a step above the crowd.
