“A safe, attractive, convenient haven in the midst of chaos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

I've been over most of Central America, and absolutely adore the countries, culture, and peoples (even Belize City, which is an acquired taste). I really, really didn't like Tegucigalpa at all - it has a very nasty vibe to it, not just a bad reputation. The journey in was particularly bad: late at night, non-working ATMs, violence after a football match - it was just a bad, bad, bad experience.

Which is why i enjoyed Cafe Cibreo so much. It felt like taking a breath of relief. Apparently it's recommended by the US Embassy. It feels slightly small, but it's got game. And some depth.

Palmira is a "safe" part of a city that you pretty much can't walk around in at night, and Cibreo feels very up-market opposite what looks like a 5* hotel (200L/$10 to/from Ticabus, but the traffic is very bad so budget an hour for a 15min journey). The outside is modest, but the sidewalk area it's in is clean, attractive, and gated for security. The lobby is a strange mix of rustic and modern, but it's appealing and has a calmness that's slightly intoxicating.

The staff themselves are helpful, friendly, and highly professional, and you can sense the effort put into the food as it's absolutely first class. The breakfast dining room downstairs is fantastically First-World. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a lot of character: clean, nicely designed, and great value for money. The wifi's a bit on and off, but it's trivial.

If someone absolutely forced me to go back to Tegucigalpa (and you'd have to, with a gun against my head), this is definitely where i'd stay, and where i'd recommend anyone else on a mid-range budget to stay. Although i think i'd confine myself in the gated lobby in the evenings to soak up the place with a cerveza rather than deal with the potential malevolence downtown.

Gorgeous staff lady! Also, even if i was blurry eyed, one of the most beautiful, classy women i have ever seen walked right through reception in the morning, so as far as i'm concerned - tongue in cheek -, these things constitute a good omen for such a great little metropolitan oasis. I just wish it was in another city, although perhaps it needs to be where it is.

Warm welcome, nice & clean rooms, lobby and dining room. Hot water, air conditionning. Tasty breakfast. Very affordable. We recommend it. The owner was also very helpful for directions and ways to get a cab and bus.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed fine!

Stayed for a night, service really good, very clean, food amazing, good for business and just for vacation, there are a lot of places nearby, bars, restaurants, and more, very good place to stay, the people really nice, I asked for directions, and this guy made me a map, I totally recommend it, and the view at least from my room was amazing.

I recently spend 5 nights at Cafe Cibreo while on a work trip to Honduras. I felt very safe and comfortable in this economically friendly hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast options. And the location is a great jumping-off point for heading downtown, to a healthy restaurant to suit all tastes (IE: vegetarian), or to almost any amenity that one may need. The staff was very flexible and accommodative to my personal needs. Laundry services and breakfast were included in the price. The airport transport driver arrived before our scheduled time, 4:15 am instead of 4:30 am, and got me the airport well in advance.

Room Tip: There is no pool or fitness center at Cafe Cibreo but a couple of doors down is the more luxurious H...

I have stayed at many high-end hotels in Tegucigalpa (Marriott, InterContinental) but my top choice is Hospedaje Cafe Cibreo. It was formally called Leslie's Place, and now under new ownership is a really lovely gem in a nice part of the city. The hotel is in an old, historic property, with a lovely courtyard sitting area where a delicious breakfast is served. The coffee is delicious and plentiful, and the staff will make whatever you are in the mood for (eggs, etc.) and you can serve yourself to delicious homemade bread and cereal. A delicious fruit cup is presented to you at the beginning of the meal. We also had dinner one night and it was quite delicious. This is also an excellent work environment. It is quiet and we used the courtyard space to hold meetings with our work team. The wireless is high-speed and available in the public areas as well as the rooms.

The front area serves as a lobby and also has refreshments (soda, beer/wine, espresso, hot chocolate and tea).

My one complaint on the last visit was that they did not have a hair dryer or iron, but the owner is so responsive that he has already purchased those items for future guests! The only other issue is that on some nights there is some noise from music at a bar across the street.

I enjoy the historic nature of this property. It is sparkling clean, and to see a bit of history in Tegicugalpa is a refreshing change of pace. With advance notice, this would be a great place for a small group of travelers to stay (say a church delegation, mission group, or work team).

The hotel has lovely quality clean rooms. The staff were very friendly and informative. However, the real plus point is the restaurant. This is a rare oasis of quality food in a city full of fast food places.

We couldn't have been luckier to stumble across this little hotel, for our one night stay in Tegucigulpa. The staff were welcoming, the rooms well priced and bedding amazing! Set in the safest suburb of Tegucigulpa, there are a number of restaurants within a minutes walk, however the in house food was brilliant too.
