Owner description: Beautiful wilderness park about 20 km outside of Tegucigalpa. The site has many kilometres of hiking trails and is terrific for bird enthusiasts, as it's an easily accessible place to see quetzals, trogons, toucans and more.

Because it is relatively close to Tegucigalpa, you should take this is. The views on the way up are great especially if the calalillies are in bloom! Bring lots of cold water and sturdy shoes if you are going to go on the trails with the guides. the Hope Mine was fun to see.

“Uncharted territory”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

What a jewel. This park is so under-visited. One day is not nearly enough to explore this vast jungle. The best way to experience La Tigra is to hike from Jutialpa to San Juancito. You will be exhausted, but with a smile pasted on your face.

“100% Awesome Cloud Forest Nature Hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

I've been twice to the "back" entrance to La Tigra National Park. The long hike to the center of the park is worth every effort, with beautiful views at every turn. Sometimes it can get pretty cool so you may want to carry a jacket. There are very rustic sleeping/eating arrangements at the entrance to the park, but they require advanced planning. I have also been to the El Hatillo side of the park, with is also very nice. I've heard that there are a few places to buy freshly-grown strawberries on the way to the entrance. Don't miss these, they'll be grown the old-fashioned way and perfectly ripe.

“Spectacular park, great trails, near city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

La Tigre is about 45 minutes from Tegucigalpa by public bus. Ask at your hotel or a trusted taxi driver for instructions. The bus leaves from a square downtown.
The park is in the mountains, with wide, well-marked trails, spectacular forests and, based on the day we were there, very few visitors.
Birders will be kept busy. We saw a quetzal and toucans (though birding is difficult in the forest).
There is a place to get snacks, but take water and wear sensible shoes for walking.
