“Nice hotel- avoid the restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2011

The hotel itself is very nice and the beds are wonderful. The front desk staff are extremely helpful and friendly. If you avoid the restaurant you will have a fine stay here. I have never seen a more disorganized restaurant in an international hotel, confused, slow and unfriendly staff in addition to being overpriced. We had better service and food in the backwaters of Honduras than here. It seems the word has gotten out as nobody is ever there but strange that you still can't get any service.

Brought my wife on a busines trip - nice hotel, friendly, helpful staff, nice pool, very helpful concierge who was able to arrange whatever we needed. Truly bilingual, and very polite in response to my terrible Spanish skills. I would definitely stay here again.

IHC hotel is on par with the brand around the world. Nice use of lenca art throughout the room and hotel to give a "feel" of Honduras. Staff super helpful with driving instructions. Rooms super clean and modern.

The restaurant is not that great and expensive.

For the same price as competitors in San Pedro, this is a class above. Modern, high quality, excellent service. Incredibly comfy beds. Varied breakfast.

I stayed at this hotel last week for our organzation's board meeting. All of us thought it was very swanky compared to where we usually stay (we are a nonprofit), but we'd gotten a good group rate that included internet and breakfast. The hotel looks nice, with a pretty pool area, and large comfortable rooms equivalent to what you'd find at an Intercontinental in the US. The restaurant had a large buffet with local food and something for non-adventurous eaters. We had a couple of confusions with the hotel changing our meeting rooms but overall service was very good. There is also a decent sized exercise room (for a hotel) with modern equipment and windows overlooking the pool.

The big problem was at night. I was on the second floor and for Wednesday and Thursday nights I heard the loud music in the bar area (main floor) quite clearly in my room. It stopped at 10 or 11pm so it wasn't that big of a deal. However on Friday night the music pumped and thumped until about 4 am. i changed rooms at 1:30am because I couldn't stand it anymore and could STILL hear the thumping (if not the words) on the 7th floor. This is the first time I've ever changed rooms - for anything! They were nice about it but I didn't sleep very well that night (my last).

If you stay - get a good rate and demand to stay on one of the highest floors.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Intercontinental. Previously, I also stayed at the Isabella and the Hilton, and by far this is my preferred choice. The service has always been excellent, front desk service is competent and professional (and they all speak fluent English....more than I can say about the Hilton). The restaurant/buffet food is good, but I always prefer grabing dinner at the bar. They have basic meals like a burger or salad, so if you don't feel like eating a feast in the restaurant, you have an option at a fraction of the price with some sports on TV.

Room service is also good, however some of the dishes are hit and miss (fetuccini alfredo was a salt cream blob of ugliness)

The rooms were newly renovated and the furniture was superb and chic...I was really impressed with the investment they made. My only complaint would be that the bathrooms were small...Nicely designed and clean, but very small.

However, when I travel back to San Pedro, I will definitelly stay at the Intercontinental.

Recently stayed at this hotel and when I arrived to the hotel I thought I was in a bad episode of kids' show. The lobby of the hotel is not very large and there were children (at least 75-100) running around like crazy, completely out of control. They were all yelling, screaming, pushing buttons at the only two elevators in the building and running/bumping onto people. Several of the people waiting to be checked in complained about this situation and no one did anything about it. The problem with the hotel is that it hosts a lot of children's parties by renting either the pool area or the lobby where the parties are held so the paying guests have to suffer being stuck with all theses unrully, unsupervised children, so when you are trying to relax by the pool or have dinner/lunch at one of the restaurants by the lobby, you hear the loud, out of control screams.

The restaurants' food is not that extraordinary but it is pricey and the service from the staff is very poor. I asked for help renting a car and was promised the assistance, but after 30 hours of waiting, no answers, and finally being told they did not remember me asking for this, I simply did it myself in 20 minutes total. The rooms are small but the beds are great and if after all you happen to stay in this place and happen to eat here, ask for Adolfo, the only waiter who actually was the bright spot in this place. This kid was bright, attentive, and knew his stuff, but I learned later that even though he worked very hard and was the only one actually doing anything amongst the wait staff, all tips were shared between all of them regardless of who worked harder. So we decided to start tipping this kid cash so we could get his hard earned money.

Also, please be aware that this place is frequented by a cadre of the "well to do" crowd in the city, so don't be surprised by the snobishness of some of the people who come here only to eat but who are not guests at the hotel.

Happy travels :)
