“Nothing to write home to Mom about”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

We went to Mango Tango because the taxi driver and front desk of our hotel did not know where to find some of the better rated places we were interested in. All in all Mango Tango was not bad. The service was great considering we were struggling with our limited Spanish and the menu is only in Spanish unlike most places that have an English translation. They did have WiFi so that was helpful to google translate some of the words we didn't know. The waiter did not speak any English but was very helpful and patient with us. I had the home made fish filled ravioli with Alfredo sauce and my husband had a burger. The food was tasty but a little heavy on the salt. The fries with the burger was my favorite part, very crispy and tasty. The ravioli was good but rich and salty, couldn't finish it. Burger had a good BBQ sauce on it. It was not bad but we probably wouldn't go back. We ate at Pupuseria Universitaria for lunch which does not have a listing on tripadvisor but we really enjoyed the food there and would definitely go back. A pupusa is a small stuffed flour tortilla with toppings. We had two pupusas and 4 fried beef and chicken tacos for the two of us and we couldn't finish it all and it was probably the best tacos in central America I have had yet. All for under $7 US incl tip.

Thank you for reviewing our restaurant. Today is the first time I accessed this site and was surprised to see we had some reviews. So of course, I just now learned I can respond to them as well.
We try to do our best, and we fell short with you, so please accept my apologies. The fish raviloli were a new addition and we obviously did not adjust the alfredo sauce (ie salt) accordiingly. I read your review to the kitchen staff and have taken the necessary measures for it not to happen again. We make almost everything in house, including the hamburger bun, patties and the barbacue sauce you liked so much. We get unique flavors, but every once in a while we get some "misses".
We take great pride in our culture and want to provide our guests an authentic experience. Most of our visitors want to try to speak our language, but we never intended for it to be a struggle. I'm sorry no one informed me you were having a difficult time because I would have gladly come out (I'm in the kitchen) and helped out.
Thanks again for visiting our country and our restaurant and once again please accept our apologies; we will do our best to make sure we do not make the same mistakes again.

“Yummy food, but icky feeling afterward...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

My husband took me on a date to Mango Tango the day after we got married, and we walked in and found a table right away in a sort of central location. The service was slow, (but not atypical for the country), but the menu offered very enticing options. He ordered a beef option, and I a seafood dish, and while we waited, we sipped gigantic stemmed glassed of fruit smoothies. They were absolutely delicious!
When are plates arrived, we at the food with relish, and felt very, very full. It was hard to get our waitress's attention for the check, but once we finally flagged her down, we paid and left. Not too long after, we both started feeling a little queasy, and then all that night and the next day, we were with gut aches and many trips to the bathroom. Hopefully, it was a one-time issue, and in general, the food prep is healthy. The atmosphere was charming, and the food was delicious...I just might wait a long time before I feel comfortable returning....

Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. Today is the first time I saw your review and this is why I had not responded sooner.
I want to apologize for your bad experience. I read your review to all of our staff and together have gone over all the possibilities. We take pride in our good practices and have trained our staff properly. We have an open kitchen so that our guests can see how their food is being prepared and that it is being prepared properly. We also have much stricter standards at our restaurant than what are required from us by law. We require proper attire (including gloves) to ensure the safety of our employees and our guests: safety and health are a priority for us.
Please accept our apologies once again and know that we take your review very seriously and will do all we can to ensure that this won't happen again.
