“A piece of rustic paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

Things you should know - It is far away from the main town, anything you want to use, or eat you should buy before you head over to Villas Pico Bonito. There is no mini bar and the restaurant isn't always open so take snacks!!!!

The good - OMG this place is gorgeous. You are far away from everything, and the locale is beautifully kept up. You feel like you stepped into a beautiful peaceful jungle. The infinity pool is a definite plus, with a breathtaking view. The rooms are very clean. Richard the owner is very very nice and likes to talk to the guests which makes it feel homey. Prices are great. There is internet at the pool which is nice, however it did not reach our room which was a bummer. I believe that if you are in some of the bigger cabins you get internet however.

The bad - We drove in from the main city Ceiba and did not realize how far the lodge is. There are no signs ANYWHERE indicating that you are going in the right direction. So be aware, you will be driving for quite a while on unpaved roads. Once we got to the locale, we were told that the restaurant wasn't open, so do yourself a favor and find out is the restaurant is going to be open. If not bring food!!!!! There is a restaurant about 2 miles out which had good food so it wasn't the end of the world.

Side point- Be aware that there are also a lot of bugs around. This is due to the fact that you are in the MIDDLE OF THE JUNGLE lol. While you are sleeping you will hear geccos and you will also hear the river. We did the hike of the Pico Bonito mountain. I am a wimp, and it took us about 5 1/2 hours round trip, though they say you can do it in 3 hours. The hike is nice though a little repetitive, and the waterfall at the top is nothing mind blowing. Normally you cant get under the waterfall unless you are willing to climb some very slippery rocks, which I did, however i earned a lot of bruises doing so.

Thanks for your four star rating, you were very very kind. I know you did not mention it but what with the hot water problem I don't think we deserved it. My mistake installing the wrong wattage when repairing the shower!
Yes the lodge is outside La Ceiba and in its own special place in the Jungle. It is 4.6 miles or 7.5 Kms up a winding dirt road that follows the river. The cost to get a taxi depends on where you are coming from but $15 / $40 should cover it.
Once here we have a restaurant that is open Wednesday through Sunday. I have to give Leti, Wilder and Ana a couple of days off each week.
In many instances I will take guests up to Omega's restaurant for dinner when we are closed or if I am off down town will give guests a ride there to shop.
We are a vacation rental resort and the lodges all have kitchens, many people bring their own food and prepare their own meals. This is a big plus to many of our guests.
We offer a pick up service that will include a shop stop at the super if the guest wants. Even if you get a taxi they are usually willing to stop for a little while while you buy supplies.
To my future guests, please check the web site and especially the blog, pages section, which has all the latest and greatest about Villas Pico Bonito, all kinds of great information there.

I am handicapped and I got the most considerate care and friendliest people in Honduras here. Richard (the owner) put me in "The Casita" as it was easy to get to the pool and restaurant (no stairs). The food was great and the grounds were amazing. Flowers of all kinds and you can hear the birds! The pool is amazing looking over the river and a great
experience in a rain storm ! All the other guests loved this place too.
Upon leaving Richard the owner took me to a few bus stations until he found the right bus line! Upon arrival his helper, Orlando, picked me up at the Roatan Ferry with his sign it was easy to see. If you fly to Roatan Island or San Pedro Sula this is a great rain forest experience!! I even ran
into the restaurant manager all the way up in Copan Ruins (she was on vacation in the northern part of Honduras ) She and her family are great !
I highly recommend the Villas at Pico Bonito (not to be confused with the Lodge with a similar same) !

Room Tip: Each Villa is unique! You can see them all on an easy to view website !!

We loved the place and will come back. It is beautiful and relaxing. The food was awesome and the atmosphere was unique. Thanks! We went rafting, zip lining, horsebackriding, hiking. Our favorite thing to do was to lie around the most people pool in the world. Seeing the mountains surrounding us with brid sounds everywhere. The staff was wonderful and we ate mostly around the pool.

Stayed at Villas @ Pico Bonito (VPB) for three nights in August 2012 with my wife and 2 kids (age 9 & 11). We spent 3 nights in Copan and then rode 6 1/2 hours to VPB. Despite some vicious car sickness from the van, the drive was worth it. Richard has created a paradise along the Rio Cangrejal. The view from the infinity pool with the river and looking across the Pico Bonito National Park is just spectacular. The rooms were enormous and insanely comfortable.

Some comments for future travellers:

1) No TV and No air conditioning. We were there in August and were very comfortable at night.
2) Lodge is pretty isolated from everything in La Ceiba. We stopped at a grocery store and got some simple things like peanut butter/jelly and juice for kids.
3) Menu at VPB is simple and fluctuates with availability. Not alot of Honduran food. Everything was cooked wonderfully.
4) Whitewater rafting was a must. My kids had never done it before and wanted to go a second time. We went Ziplining offsite at Samba Creek -- Beautiful views of Honduras Bay. We went on the 10k hike in the national park to look at the huge waterfall. Exhausting but just spectacular. It is super slippery near the waterfall !!!!

You would be crazy not to stay here if you wanted to rest for a few days in La Ceiba. Just paradise !!!!!

My family and I recently travelled from Grand Cayman to Honduras for the first time and had the pleasure of staying at Villas Pico Bonito. We love, love, love this hotel and it's staff. The accommodations were first class. The cabins were very clean and well appointed. The scenery was incomparable. We stayed in a cabin that overlooked the Rio Cangrejal and the waterfall. Words cannot describe how wonderful it was to wake up every morning and to go to bed at night listening to the wonderful sounds of nature. My husband and I would sit on the porch every morning with a nice cup of joe just enjoying the scenery. My son loved cooling off in beautiful, pristine infinity pool every day, which overlooked the river and jungle. Loved eating at the on site restaurant, which served up anything from Honduran food, to hot dogs, steaks and burgers all prepared to order. Mr. Richard and his staff were super nice, professional and very accommodating. They truly made our stay amazing. We plan on returning every chance we can.

Room Tip: They are all exceptional. Cannot make a mistake when booking.

Overview:
I am not sure where to start, but our vacation here was amazing!!! Villas Pico Bonito is located in a beautiful area and has a great view of the river valley with fantastic accommodations. What impressed me the most was the fantastic hospitality shown by Richard (the general manager) and all the staff in his employment. It is amazing how Villas Pico Bonito is able to meet that perfect balance between fine service, excellent value, and eco-friendliness.
When you get there you will barely have to lift a finger, because the management and staff will organize everything for you.
I was also pleasantly surprised at their cuisine. The food was excellent and of fantastic value. They had a wide variety of dishes on their menu, which were well prepared and the staff were happy to accommodate special requests.
In addition to this, the Villas are a multicultural hot spot. We met guests from the Caribbean, Canada, the US, Europe and Australia, who were all happy to find this hidden gem.

Personal Tips:
Remember Honduras is primarily Spanish speaking, so a general grasp of the language is good, but not essential. Exercising common sense is also important, as it is with anywhere you travel. Some people may need to adjust to the higher altitude, since the lodge is in the mountains. The hotel also provides purified water, which is good, because some people's stomachs might disagree with the local water quality.

Room Tip: If you want the best lodge, then choose La Ceiba tree lodge. We stayed there and it had the best vie...

I lived in Tegucigalpa for 10 years and went to many road trips with my family when I was young visiting beautiful places from north, south, west and east of Honduras. Staying at Villas Pico Bonito was wondrous. You really get a feel for nature and a feeling of being home with the great accommodations the Villas have to offer. The gardens are beautiful filled with exotic flowers and many plants. Many sitting areas to appreciate everything around you, from the sound of singing birds to seeing geckos on the trees. And most of all, the warm hospitality from Richard, his staff and his friendly pets who would greet us every morning. On behalf of my family, Thank you Richard!
