“One of the best places we've ever stayed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014

Copan Ruinas is not highly developed, and la Casa de Cafe was a great place for us as Americans who didn't speak Spanish. The owners are fluent in both English and Spanish, and Howard even helped us arrange our stay the night before in San Pedro Sula. All of the staff are incredibly helpful. There are ten rooms, each of which opens directly onto the enclosed two-level lawn and garden where a wonderful breakfast is served each morning and coffee, tea, fruit, and dessert are available all day long. While small by US standards, the rooms are excellent and very clean.
We stayed six nights in March of 2014 while visiting our son who teaches at a bilingual school on the other side of town. It was a five-minute walk from Casa de Cafe to the central plaza and lots of restaurants and shops, and there are small open taxis all over the town who charge only about $2.00US - less if you start to seem like a local.
This was one of the best places we've ever stayed. We plan to return to Copan Ruinas and will definitely stay here again.
The only disturbances were the roosters all over town who make sure everyone wakes up early.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms. You'll love any room you get.

Our group spent 3 nights here to provide a retreat for teachers of a Honduran school for special needs students. Staff are very attentive and do all they can to accommodate needs/requests. Juice, hot coffee, and individual plates piled high with fresh fruit begin the excellent breakfast each morning, cooked-to-order when you are ready (within scheduled service times). Grounds are lovely and well maintained. Rooms are clean though small, and equipped with everything you need. Complimentary coffee is available throughout the day and evening. Limited menu from which you can order lunch, dinner, or snacks. No A/C in guest rooms but there is a ceiling fan. Because there is no A/C, the windows must remain open to allow the breeze in. This makes it noisy when trying to sleep, especially for those not used to outside noises at night. We treated everyone in our group to a massage by the on-staff masseuse. $40 for 1-hour body massage. Very professional and relaxing, though they must add a fan for the comfort of clients as it became very hot and uncomfortable, at times. An evening massage appointment would be more comfortable, no doubt. B&B is within walking distance of restaurants, shopping and town square.

Room Tip: They have approximately 10 guest rooms. We stayed in the newer building, which I understand is a bit...

This is a really good place to base yourself when visiting Copan. Howard and Hamlet go out of their way to make your stay a happy one. The breakfast is really good and the rooms are nice. There is no A/C in the room but the fan was good enough.

Stayed here for 4 nights and loved every minute of it. First of all, the owners were very quick to reply to my questions during the planning stages and made some great and useful recommendations like how to get from San Pedro Sula to Copan. The B&B is just on the edge of town which is great because it is much quieter on the weekends there than some other places in town close to bars. Remember that Copan is not big so when I say edge of town, realize that you can still walk to town in 10 minutes if that. The breakfasts in the morning are just fabulous - fresh homemade food served in a tranquil setting with a view of the Copan valley. Rooms are simple but clean with good showers. You won't be disappointed with your stay here!

I stayed here one night looking for a relaxing evening and a good, healthy breakfast for starting my site-seeing activities. The owners, Angela and Howard, are wonderful people (and fluent in English, Spanish, and Mosquito) and the staff couldn't have been nicer, more welcoming, or eager to make sure I was happy.

I arrived in the evening, and dropped off my stuff to get some dinner out. The rooms are big, comfortable, well-decorated, and above all, clean. I've never stayed in a cleaner and better-maintained place in Copan. They care about their place, AND you. I ended up getting back from dinner late, and the night watchman was actually sitting at the outside gate to make sure I got in okay.

The outside lawn/patio was beautiful for birdwatching and stargazing. The place is a four-minute walk from the center of town, making it extra tranquil and quiet. I had an extremely restful night's sleep, and the morning was relaxing and peaceful. They provide a pitcher of purified drinking water, and have actual hot water (not an electrical water heater/shower head...scary).

I ate breakfast, did some reading, and caught sun out on the grassy patio on the beautiful wrought iron table and chairs. A mid-morning nap on the hammocks is an excellent idea. Howard made sure I was taken care of and content. See my food review!!

We ended up staying 3 nights instead of 2 as originally intended - and wish we could have stayed much longer. Arriving late in the evening we were immediately mesmerized by the beautiful property all lit up with candles. Despite the late hour we were able to order dinner and loved the spread of tamales, cheese and fruit plate. Breakfast each morning was amazing and always presented with a smile. The coffee was simply the best I ever had. All the indoor and outdoor spaces are a feast to the eye and immaculately maintained. I cannot praise the beauty and the hospitality of this place enough. The owners Angela and Howard along with their nephew Hamlet and the various staff members went out of their way to ensure that we had a great stay and also helped us with travel advice and restaurant recommendations. I can't wait to visit again.

Nice big, clean rooms with a two tier garden area for meals or relaxing. Breakfast was delicious. The staff is very well trained and friendly. Lots to do in the area, and it is an easy walk to the main square. We walked to the ruins, too. The owner was very helpful with onward travel recommendations which we used. Wish we could have stayed longer!
