We spent a wonderful week at this resort. The diving is fantastic, the boats are roomy and comfortable, the people are wonderful and warm, the cabanas are very, very nice, and the food is delicious. First the diving: we had an amazing divemaster, Bel. Don't let her small size fool you; she is strong and fierce (to lionfish) and smart and really just perfect. She led our dives at a perfect pace and pointed out lots of interesting things we would have missed (seahorses, pipefish, pipe horses, flat worms, fire worms, and lots more). We saw turtles, octopus, eels, eagle rays, dolphins, cobia, barracuda, and so much more. Our boat captain Kerry was also wonderful. He found big pods of dolphin for us to snorkle with on multiple occasions AND his mother bakes cinnamon rolls, yucca cake, and chocolate cake for the boat. Sometimes I would get distracted on the dive thinking about the food waiting on the boat.
My husband and I stayed in cabana G and it was wonderful. Big tile shower, very comfortable king bed, wood floors, view of the lagoon, our own porch with hammock, and our own pier out over the lagoon. I even liked the paintings on the wall. The housekeeping girls fold the towels and bedding into different animals every day. I often feel that I have to give up a really comfortable room at dive resorts - not the case here. Our friend stayed in one of the duplexes and she said she could hear every word of conversation in the next unit, so try to get a cabana to yourself. Be warned that the walls of the bathroom in the cabanas do not extend to the ceiling, so don't room with anyone who you don't want hearing everything that goes on in there.
All of the employees were super nice. Liza met us at the dock and showed us around. She and Paulina were very patient about helping me practice my (terrible) Spanish. Manuel the bartender is great. You can run a tab at the bar and put it all on your credit card at the end of the trip; this helps because you don't have to bring a bunch of cash for expenses and tips. It can all go on a credit card if you want. There is a resort dog, Coco who is silly and sweet (typical yellow lab). The food is delicious. There were at least 10 different items on the buffet at every meal, so even a picky eater like me can find plenty to eat. I recommend any potato dish; they have a magical way with potatoes there. Everything was made fresh. The cream of potato soup with bacon was amazing.
There are lots of no-see-ums so bring bug spray. I think the bugs are the only thing that insure that I return home after a week.
I have two minor complaints that would not keep me from coming back or recommending the place: One, the shore diving is difficult because the route to the wall is not marked. We went for a dawn dive one morning and had a hard time finding our way out to the wall. Two, the wireless internet access in the common room was very limited. It seemed that only 2 or 3 people could be on at once, which was frustrating.
I don't want to end on a negative note. This is a wonderful resort and I highly recommend it.
Get a cabana to yourself. The duplexes have no soundproofing between the units.
