bad treatment and low facilities.
Will never come back or recommend to friends.
Left with a feeling that I was used and didn't get my money valie
Class sizes are small, so you get almost 1 on 1 attention. And the small cay is very intimate. It's not too far from Utila town, but it feels completely different. Utila town is very touristy, where the cay has families that have lived there for generations. On a couple off days, I went fishing with a local named Melvin. Bogdan, the owner of Utila Cays Diving, introduced us. And then after I moved on to Utila town to stay for a couple days at the end of my trip (I wanted to experience both places to compare), Bogdan helped me communicate with Melvin (who didn't have email) to set up another day of fishing...Utila Cays Diving is just a great, relaxing place to learn and enjoy your vacation.
If you are a diver, and want a old style dive trip, here is the Island. Yes it has been a few years since we were there, New Years but it was a trip to remember. No we did not have a 5 star, but it was a 5 star dive trip. rooms over the water, dinner on the water, diving super great, key visits something to remember. So if you do not need 5 star go.
the air port is so small, plane was in reverse before it landed.
We traveled to Utila for 3 weeks in March 2015. It would not have been the same experience without Utila Cays Diving!!! Bogdan, Edgar and Mike (Jutta and Phil, too) are hands-down the best of the best!
Prior to staying on the cays, we stayed in Utila Town. We ran into Bogdan, and he hooked us up with Mitch at Jungle Cafe (highly recommend it!). He gave us additional recommendations for the couple other days we were in town as well. Bogdan arranged our water taxi out to the cays, and upon arrival we had a seamless transition to the Hotel Kayla 2 (do not confuse with the Hotel Kayla- which has now been taken over by new ownership). The owners of Hotel Kayla 2, Mr. Donald and Mrs. Jeanette are the sweetest couple ever. After settling in, he gave us a tour of the cays- followed by dinner and drinks. The next day, the diving began.
During our 2/12 weeks on the cays, we went on 18 dives with UCD. They are top notch in safety and fun! They are 100% full service, valet diving, which made our lives so easy and worry-free. All the folks at UCD have incredible knowledge of the area, and you can tell- they love Utila! I got my AOW certification with UCD, and wouldn't have had it any other way. They made sure I understood the material and skills, all while making it a complete joy! The reefs are lush and the sealife is plentiful in Utila. We were also fortunate enough to land a trip to Cayos Cochinos with UCD, and I highly recommend hoping on board with them if the weather is in your favor! While staying out in the cays, make sure to have a beer at Fish Burger with some local legends (Dave, Jutta and crew- we miss you!), catch the Saturday BBQ at Herman's, experience the "disco" and bring some school supplies for the local school kids! Oh yeah, and dive with UCD!!!
Unfortunately, we had to return to our real lives. Bogdan arranged our transport back to Utila Town (via Neptune's, which UCD stops by after diving for some food and drinks). He also arranged for our stay in Utila Town, and gave some more recommendations for food and activities.
I cannot say enough about UCD, they seriously are the best! My trip to Utila, and in particular the cays, was unforgettable; and without a doubt, that was in great part to Utila Cays Diving and their crew. Thank you!
this was another great experience with utila cays diving, the service is consistent and the dive masters are great.
bogdan the owner is a pleasure to be around as are the skipper and other staff members. the boat is small (no cattle dive boats here) so you get as much attention/help as you would like and plenty of flexibility when it came to choosing dive sites.
we dived with them for 7 days and went to the famed north side everyday but one (many of the bargain dive ops in utila town only go once or twice a week to save on gas costs).
we saw everything from big nurse sharks to tiny seahorses and the water was warm (84f) and clear.
they took us to neptunes for lunch on two of the days after we finished our dives and that was definitely a treat, good food, drinks and locale.
if you stay on one of the utila cays or at one of the south south rental homes you must dive with bogdan and the team at utila cays diving!
Spent 5 days on Utila, where I did my open water diving certification as well as spent some crazy partying nights. Definitely a highlight in Central America and Honduras.
