“lunching at the Purple Pelican”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

Stopping off at the purple pelican today was a pleasant surprise when we were served such a delicious lunch by Amy. The purple pelican was clean and the beach was beautiful ..nice chairs to relax in with a breeze overlooking the blue waters. Very relaxing, peaceful and the food was great!
We hope to have another lunch there soon!

“Delicious.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

As previously stated, make sure you call ahead. Since the down turn in the economy around here, they are open only by request. But it is definitely worth the extra time and travel. 4 of us had lunch there after a snorkel at Water Caye (which I wouldn't recommend for snorkeling, but it has a fabulous beach). We all had shrimp of one kind or another after having enjoyed some tasty shrimp ceviche. Garlic and butter shrimp was the best i have had, the onion rings were crunchy with great flavor, our friends said the fries were also very good. The beer is ice cold, the food perfect and the view spectacular. Hosts Debbie and husband Curt go out of their way to make your experience memorable.

“Fantastic fries and a beautiful setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2012

The location of the Purple Pelican is unbeatable - out of the way (you can only get there by boat), white sandy beaches and palm trees and a view only of the ocean and a few small sandy islands. They are open on demand and the best way to organise your trip is to call a few days in advance and you can place your orders then, that way when you arrive you can just sit back and relax on a beach lounger with a cold beer - this is especially useful if you are a large group as it means you don't have to wait too long for your food. The seafood is a good choice, but my favourite thing on the menu is the homemade fries which are to die for! (the onion rings are pretty good too). The staff are friendly, there are good island tunes playing and it just makes the Purple Pelican the perfect place to get away from Utila town for a day and chill out.

“Beautiful spot, meh food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2012

We stopped here between dives one day. The food was really pretty average, although people who ordered something different than the bacon cheeseburgers spoke more highly of their food. Apparently the fish and ceviche are quite good. We were a large group and so they wanted our orders the day before; however, we had no clue what they offered other than burgers.

Staff are nice, and you really cannot complain about the surroundings. White sand beach, chaise chairs under palm trees, volleyball court. . . Definitely worth the stop!
