“Nice small resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Went on a dive vacation with another couple. The resort is nice, private and quiet. The beach is private and beautiful. This resort is really geared more for divers. There is not much for non divers to do at the resort. The dive operation located on the property ( Subway ) was good however the dive boat provided for us did not offer any shade and barely fit the four divers, tanks and the dive master and boat captain. It was great having our own boat but would have preferred a bit more room and a bit of shade. Both the dive master and boat captain were very nice and helpful. The diving itself is not spectacular. Little marine life on all the divers.
The biting sand fleas, no-see-ums were very bad. It did not matter if we were at the pool or on the beach. I have been to Roatan before, stayed at a different resort and the biting insects were just as bad. So I do not blame Turquoise Bay Resort.
The food was good but would have liked to have more local dishes served. I can eat French fries at home. The staff was great, very nice, fun and friendly. I have no complaints with Turquoise Bay resort.
Not sure I would go to Roatan again mainly because of the biting fleas and because I was not impressed with the diving.

I lead a group of 14 divers to Turquoise Bay in May 2014. I was concerned they might miss the activate on the west side. I was wrong. The staff did such a good job, no one wanted to leave this fantasy island. Clean and welcoming, excellent meals great bar (make sure to by the drink package it is well worth it.) and entertainment almost nightly. The locals had booths a couple evenings where you could shop, another night there was a musician and you could dance. A fire dancer and local dancers were great and the beach bar b q and raegga singer on the beach was perfect for our last night on the island. The diving was amazing and our boats rarely share our dive spots with any other boats. The crew made sure our equipment was ready to go each morning and removed it, washed it and put it away in our lockers every night. Our group took the lion fish hunter class and we all enjoyed fresh lion fish cerviche almost every night.

Room Tip: The hillside rooms are more secluded and private with a great view. The water side rooms are double...

Dive vacation. Scuba facility on property Subway Scuba. Hotel is comprised of a main building with the check-in area, dining area and bar. Next to this is a covered patio. The pool is adjacent. Take the steps down to the private beach. White sand with a little calm bay. Draw back: sand flies that bite. Take spray if planning to spend time on beach--seriously. Staff are very friendly and help everyway they can. Rooms are little three or four unit buildings. Our room was clean and kept cool. Others in the group had some issues, but they were addressed immediately. Private, far from the towns. Could arrange trips in for $25 per person, which we did with a group of 14 for over 6 hours. They have a spa on the facility but I did not use cannot rate. Sad to see the week end. Beautiful little tropical resort. Special thanks to Edner, Kirby and Pablo and the rest for making the stay an excellent experience. The food was basic, but always good and sometimes better. Tons of it. Fresh melons and pineapples. Miss it already. Highly recommend as a dive vacation spot. If looking for night life, not so good.

Room Tip: All rooms seem equal to me. All offered views of ocean as far as I know. As they say, not a bad ro...

Our entire group of 13 all agree, the staff and accommodations were fabulous! The food was excellent, the service was excellent, the rooms, we stayed in the cabanas, were excellent, and the beach and sunsets were super. The dive shop was as superb as the hotel staff in friendlyness and helpfullness. Nothing on this trip could have been better, except for maybe a little more sunshine. The resort staff even helped with our planned pirates party by setting up in the pool area and providing decorations for the occasion. I don't see how they make any money with the low prices and top quality service. Definitely planning another trip back.

Room Tip: I think all the cabanas were well placed but #1 & 2 were closests to everything and had a great...

I'll make this short and sweet....

Pros:
-A/C in rooms
-king or two double bed rooms with daily housekeeping
-all inclusive meal/drink option for $35/day.....includes 5 bottled beers and a list of 25 cocktails
-waaaaaaaay too much food!! So delicious so be sure to try everything!
-made to order omelettes
-daily fresh seafood
-chefs will cook to satisfy any taste
-snacks/munchy food available
between lunch and supper
-wait staff is SUPER attentive....if your beer looks warm or is getting low, they bring another right away
-all staff speaks great English and is very friendly
-Sundays they have vendors come and set up selling souvenirs
-FULL SERVICEDIVE SHOP ON SITE!! 3 dives/day
-offers island excursions
-very easy to make reservations and quick responses via email
-FREE WiFi everywhere on the property
-complimentary kayaks, hammocks, lounge chairs, and beach towels
- CLEAN private beach
- good size pool
-indoor and outdoor dining areas
-shuttle to and from airport
-30 min ride from the tourist area (some may see that as a con but it's QUIET.)

CONS:
-Bugs everywhere and they bite! But youre in the tropics so bring heavy duty bug spray...not just OFF of backwoods....bring something with at least 90% deep.
-Random cats in the outdoor dining area. When the food is out, they swarm and meow like crazy and sometimes jump on the tables and chairs....doesnt help that some guests were feeding them from the table
-19% sales tax when paying with credit card. (Bring cash and you can avoid the tax, except at the dive shop.)
-$41 fee when you leave the country so save some cash!

I loved this place! I went to do some diving and it was perfect. I had no reason to leave the resort. (The term resort is used very loosely.) My mom, who doesnt dive came along and had a blast hanging out reading a book or just going out on the boat with me when I dive. It's not your glamorous Ritz Carlton but if you like to dive, have a clean room with a comfy bed, great food, and be away from the noisy tourist areas then this place is for you!

I lead scuba dive groups and we stayed at Turquoise Bay last year and had a great time. This year we went back and had another fabulous trip.
Yes there are "fancier" resorts on the island, but none with a warmer staff or better customer service. For example, when one member of our group was reluctant to do one of the more advanced dives the manager, Jesus, arranged for them to dive at another resort that morning so they wouldn't miss out.
Turquoise Bay Resort is an example a a resort that puts the customer first.

BTW the diving was fantastic and we will be back for another trip soon!!

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms 1-4 are closest to the main house.
