Owner description: The centerpiece of the resort is The Black Pearl, Roatan’s first and only golf course. This 18-hole, par-72, 7200 yard championship golf course was created by world famous golf course architect Pete Dye. The course starts at the ocean’s doorstep, rises into the island’s rolling foothills, then takes golfers on a wild ride back to the seaside clubhouse. It features one of Dye’s signature island greens, and 14 holes offer stunning vistas of the ocean and the Meso-American Barrier Reef. The Black Pearl is not only a haven for golfers, but for the vast wildlife on Roatan as well. With more than 100,000 plants and trees, the golf course is one of the largest sanctuaries of plant and animal life on the island. This eco-friendly golf course is one of only a few golf courses in the world to use a special strain of grass called Seashore Paspalum. Dye Designs were pioneers of the use of this salt-water tolerant strand for tropics-based projects, known for its environmental compatibility, ease of irrigation and maintenance, and translucent green hue. Its appearance, juxtaposed against the turquoise Caribbean waters, inspired The Black Pearl’s tagline: “The Best Greens and the Best Blues.” The Black Pearl also features state of the art practice facilities including a lighted driving range, ocean front warm-up range, and a practice chipping green designed to create an atmosphere of game-improvement, one that encourages guests and residents to enhance their skill sets while honing their games on one of the region’s most playable layouts. This is a semi-private course with a myriad of membership options available including temporary resident memberships, corporate and executive memberships, and yearly memberships. The Black Pearl is a world-class golf course that perfectly complements Pristine Bay’s luxury resort and real estate options.

Amazing. Incredible landscape, beautiful design by Pete Dye, perfect fairways and greens and a club house with a spectacular terrace over the Caribbean.

“Pete Dye does it again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

This is a classic Dye course, challenging, but fun all around. The terraced entry to greens marked with moguls and bunkers makes it a classic Dye course. The addition of spectacular views to the ocean makes is a picturesque delight. I played this course on July 1st with my son and we had a wonderful experience. I'd like to single out Thom Gilfoil, Director of Golf Operations, as one of the reasons we had such a great time. Thom personally discussed the course with us and then drove with us to the practice range telling us where and when the new pro shop would be constructed. Thom helped pick out our clubs and while we were on the range we mentioned that we'd like a couple more wedges and I'd like to try a different driver. Thom went back to the Beach & Golf Club and met us on the first tee with the extra clubs. Thom couldn't have been nicer talking to us about the course. We had a good round shooting just above our handicaps (16) but this was understandable being a Dye course and our first time playing it. The course was in great shape and the greens ran true. The views, especially standing on the signature 11th island green hole, were amazing. We can't wait for our next trip to Roatan to play the Black Pearl again. Worth the price and worth going to play and see the spectacular Pristine Bay Resort. A lot of the resort is still a work in progress, however when complete, it will have no equal. Highly recommend a trip here!

“Terrific course - in the making...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2012

We spent 2days golfing (and looking at property) at the Black Pearl. The course has all the makings of a great one; challenging golf with great views. The units we looked at are well constructed and seemingly fairly priced - also with nice views. Much remains to be finished, but in a few years it will be a terrific place to come back to.

“Very nice glof course.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

We went as part of a cruise excursion. The course was great. The views were supper. It was hot, and they didn't provide any water other then bottled and you had to buy it. We went though a ton of water. There is no club house visit at the turn so plan accordingly (Food, Water, Soda, Balls, etc)

My only complaint is that for the day, for two people the complete golf excursion cost us almost $600 US dollars. That is not something I would do normally but as my son said, when is the next time you are going to get to play golf in Honduras. So as long as you are prepared to spend that kind of money, have fun! If not, stay on the cruise ship.

“Beautiful course will only get better!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2012

Once landscape fills out, this course will be outstanding. Very challenging. Prices to play 9 or 18 can vary depending on day or whatever. Ask when they have specials or find out if there are any charity golf days and play then!
