Let me get this out of the way--Stay at Vista Villas. There, that being said let fill you in on the rest. Vista Villas are 4 privately owned condominiums in Sandy Bay on Roatan, Honduras. There two condos in each building, the top two in each building are private residences. The mid level units are for rent. Each unit has two bed rooms, two baths, living room and large kitchen. The villas are part of Sunnyside, a 12 acre lot with private homes. Sunnyside has a private dock that is situated directly in front of Spooky Channel and excellent snorkeling and diving.
The kitchens in the condos are well appointed with everything you need to create complete meals, in fact they were better stocked than many of places I have stayed in the past.
The bedrooms are comfortable and spacious, the bathrooms are clean and have all the amenities.
Chuck and Nancy are pretty much full-time residents and manage the villas. The best way to describe them is as the perfect neighbors. You know the ones who do not intrude on your privacy but are friendly, engaging, and willing to do anything for you if that is what you wish.
Chuck and Nancy are there for you if you need them, they are a wealth of information and good advice. They told us all the best places to eat,. the best grocery stores to shop at, and the best sights to see.
A quick note on what Vista Villas are not. They are not funky little beach bungalows, studios, or rooms, which I have nothing against by the way. They are not in the middle of all of the action, shopping, bar noise what have you. Rather, they are very comfortable accommodations that are sure to please.
Sandy Bay was the perfect location for us. A few short minutes from Coxen Hole (grocery shopping and tourists shops as well as the cruise ship dock) and West End, a funky beach town with great restaurants and tourist shops.
We were a few minutes drive from everywhere we had planned to visit. Well, for one thing the island is not the big, it doesn't take too long to get around.
For the best information on Vista Villas, Sandy Bay and Roatan visit http://www.roatanisland.net/ . This website is up to date and spot on with all of the information it provides. I am providing more reviews with regard to restaurants, such as Rick's American Cafe, The Blue Parrot, Brick Oven Pizza now Pizza Mira Bella Napoli. Blue Bahia, Cannibal Cafe, Argentinian Grill, Sunshine Cafe and Bar, et al. And attractions such as Anthony's Key Resort, Bay Island Beach Resort, Iguana Sanctuary, Gumbolimbo, West End and West Bay Beach.
My recommendations are, visit Roatan, and stay at Vista Villas. You cannot go wrong, and hey, if Vista Villas is too comfortable for you, not "island" enough for you (which I doubt), it is a great place to experience Roatan from. Explore Roatan, and who knows, you might find something more to your liking for you next visit. Even so, you can't go wrong with Vista Villas.
