“Great clean, bright, comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

Great value shared a 2 double bed room with a friend for Q50 each per night, very clean, comfortable beds, internet, good kitchen with what you need to cook (could do with a blender to make use of the delicious local fruit) big screen tv with tonnes of movies to watch... it is also perfectly located near the central market, bars and restaurants

Myself and my boyfriend stayed in Xela for a week and were looking for reasonably priced accommodation. We checked a number of different hostals/guesthouses, including accommodation affiliated to Spanish Schools. The Casa Renaissance guesthouse was definitely by far the best accommodation that we had seen, especially for the price and excellent location. The rooms are huge and extremely clean. We stayed in a room with it's own bathroom (hot shower) and living area. There's a fully equipped kitchen to use and a comfortable dining area, both inside and outside in the courtyard. There's a sofa and tv area with a huge flat screen tv and a vast selection of films to choose from. What made our stay really special however were the new owners, Mariecke and Jakko. They're so friendly and helpful, doing everything they can to make you feel comfortable and at home. By the end of the week, we felt like we were hanging out with good friends in our own house! We did not want to leave.

The reviews on tripadvisor for this place are fantastic and we had really high expectations. But honestly, Casa Renaissance surpassed our expectations. We cannot recommend this place enough!

The new dutch owners of this guesthouse are very friendly and really helpful. The bedrooms are huge, nicely decorated and the beds themselves are extremely comfy. The guesthouse has a homely feel with cute communal areas, the kitchen is well equiped and the showers are great! Excellent value for money. Wish we could have stayed longer.

, Owner at Casa Renaissance, responded to this review, July 14, 2012
Hi everybody,

As you´ve noticed by the title of this review, something big has changed at Casa Renaissance. The former owner Thijs needed to sell his place because he met the love of his life, and they couldn't live here together. With pain in his heart he selled it to us: Marieke and Jacco also from Holland.
From july 2012 Thijs, Amy and Poepie left Casa Renaissance, and we moved in.
What more has changed? Nothing much. The house is still the same beautifull house. And apparently the writers of this review liked the way we recieve our guests.
We want to thank them for "our" first review and thank them also for a great one like this. We had a good time with them as well.

regards,
Marieke & Jacco

I own a house in Quetzaltenango (Xela), but I stayed at Casa Renaissance one night due to some relationship issues. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly. The selection of movies was also great.

I stayed here during my 2 months in Xela and I’m SO happy I did. Any of my friends that saw the place agreed that is it by far the nicest place in Xela. There are (consistently) hot shower with great water pressure! (Believe me, this is a rarity around here). The place is clean and cozy and it really felt like home. The communal kitchen has everything you could possibly need the internet is much better than anything you’ll find in the internet cafes. I don’t think I’ve read any reviews mentioning the location, which is one of the best things about it. It’s 2 blocks from the Parque Central (the town center) and it’s just down the street from all the good bars and restaurants. It’s also right next to the Esso gas station/mini-mart and a 24-hour pharmacy. Sounds rather insignificant, but when you just want to run out to grab something real quick at night, this comes in very handy. And last but not least: Poopy, the adorable and sweet dog who was always there to greet me when I came home. I miss her already! I will definitely stay at Casa Renaissance when I come back to Xela.
Thanks for everything, Thijs!

Casa renaissance was easily the best place we stayed in guatemala. Right nearby the beautiful city center, the rooms are huge clean and beautiful and have down comforters. And so cheap! Definitely try to go to the markets to get food to make for dinner, very fun. Chill place. We hope to stay there again!

I stayed here for 2 months at the end of winter, despite the cold nights outside, it was always warm inside. The people are so friendly and I met so many people. I found it easy to find my quiet space whenever needed, yet there was always someone to talk with, or go out with. Thijs and Amy are amazing, not forgetting poopie, the sweetest dog. Thijs fixed his bicycle so that I could use it... just one of the really nice things I was lucky to experience. CR is a must if you come to Xela, you're really at home here. It's super clean and cozy, hot shower, well equiped kitchen and close to all amenities :)

Room Tip: Trust Thijs and Amy, they know...
