“Best Bar on Lake Atitlan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

A classy place in Santiago with great food, drinks and a nice garden. They also play movies and have a good selection of board games.

“The best place in Santiago!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Great food, great atmosphere, great fun - with a personal touch!

What makes Quila's so great is that its not just a bar, a restaurant or a fun place to relax with friends...its all those things.

First of all the space is really great. There's a nice area with tables and couches in the front for sitting quietly with friends and enjoying a meal or drinks. Stepping further in, there's an area with comfortable couches and the biggest TV in Santiago for watching the big game or a movie. Then you get to the bar, which is the best place this side of the lake to have a frosty one or to have one of Quila's many amazing mixed drinks. The bar is a cool wooden old school bar that affords a bit of intimacy to also hang with your friends or chat with Martin or one of his cute and friendly bartenders. Outside there's a sweet garden space and a ping pong table that's protected by a roof but open to the outside on one side.

Second of all the food and drinks are outstanding in quality and price. The nachos supremos, burgers, and fries are the best in town hands down. The nightly specials are always good. And the barbecue nights and fresh fish (often caught by Martin - the owner) are not to miss. The drinks are clever and well prepared. Although there are always special drinks and the standard drink menu, they will make you just about anything. And the prices are all very reasonable.

Third, the atmosphere is reason enough to come. Martin does a nice job of creating community. There's frequent special events - from the aforementioned bbq to chile eating contests to music to birthday celebrations to movie nights. But even without a special event, there's always a nice mix of Guatemalans, travelers and ex-pats. Its friendly and cool without being aloof.

In short, this is the place to hang out if you are in Santiago. Don't miss it.

“Great drinks and atmosphere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

The owner at Quila's knows how to make a drink! Probably the best caipirinha I've had in Guatemala is at Quila's. The atmosphere is chill and unique - the only place like it in Santiago. It's a must for any tourists that visit Santiago. You'll find good food, great drinks, and great service. Also, my boyfriend says they have the second best hamburger he's ever tried.

“A notch above the common comedore!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

Quila's is a great place to grab a drink and a bite (try the super burrito..pretty sure it was t-bone and some other meat inside, delicious). But, it's not to be called a bar. Ask the ornery, yet sweet hearted Belgian owner why ;). If your in Santiago definitely check it out. Just grab one of the 600 tuk tuks and they should know the place. Enjoy!

“Fun Evening in Santiago”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2012

We had the opportunity to visit Quilas twice during our last visit to Santiago. Little hard to locate (near the dock or ask a Tuktuk driver). It is a fun place with a little something for everyone. Lite food - fries, burgers, soup, dessert----drinks alcohlic and non, Wi Fi, games, TV & books. At our first visit they were having a BBQ of ribs, shrimp & steak (a monthly event we understand)..... this was a sell out!!! Sunday night is movie night with popcorn, nachos, fries & everything on the menu. The last time we were there a ping pong table had just been delivered. Action was fast and furious. Not sure whether beer pong has arrived yet!!! Easy to recommend this place to vacationers looking to spend an evening with a little something for everyone. The owner, Martin, is quiet an entertainer. He is from Belgium and has lived there for over 10 years. Opens at 5 PM.
