“The treehouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We stayed in Room #5 which felt like climbing into a tree house. The room was a decent size and had a good bathroom with a hot shower. We particularly liked the outside deck and the comfortable chairs.
The room had all the amenities, a place to put suitcases, hang clothes, good towels, T.V.and desk. There was a lot of wind while we were there and the metal roof banged. We mentioned this as well as the lack of hooks in the bathroom to the owners and when we came back they had corrected both these deficiences.
As others mentioned the hotel is central and has a pleasant courtyard to walk through. We ate our breakfasts there, because it was nice to have one meal where we weren't interupted by local entrepeneurs. The staff were very helpful and we had some good converstations with the owner. The hotel is good value and would reccomend it.

Room Tip: There are alot of different options from ground floor to second floor. Al ittle noiser high up but t...

We spent a couple of nights in this lovely hotel, we really liked it. The place is central, quiet, has a lovely garden. The breakfast choice is great!

The place is pitoresque by itself i would say, with the natural plants, the nice walking paths.

You're a 5 min walk from the Lake Atitlan, to enjoy the sunset.

It's very clean, the service is good. The rooms are lovely.

I would just highly recommend it!

Centrally located in Pana, this hotel is off on a quiet street with lovely gardens, hot tub, and steam. Separate small cabins with comfortable beds and outdoor sitting areas in the garden. Two friendly German shepards, the owners pets, are there to hang out in the garden. This is not luxury but it s clean, friendly, and inexpensive. Great help with drivers, boats, and tips on restaurants.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with another couple, ask for the adjoining rooms with a small living area. One...

I stayed a couple of nights at the Hotel Utz Jay while visiting Pana and a couple of the other towns on Lake Atitlan. The hotel is a very good value. I paid 225Q a night, and I believe the price is even better if you agree to stay 3 or more nights. The hotel is on a quiet street, but only a couple of minutes by foot from the town's main road. It made it very easy to get a good night's rest. The room was exceptionally clean and even had a little patio area to sit out on and enjoy the weather. There was a television with plenty of tv stations from the states (HBO, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc) which was nice to watch when I was laying in bed at night. There was an A/C and fan to get some air flow in the room. The employees at the front desk were helpful and friendly as well. My only complaint would be the lack of water pressure in the shower. There were times when it slowed down to a drip, but that happens in Guatemala! They did serve breakfast, but I never ate at the hotel. Overall, I was very pleased and will happily stay here again. It's a solid choice for Pana and a really good deal!

Room Tip: I stayed in room 5 in the back. The room was upstairs and had a little patio to sit on. I didn'...

The rooms are set around a nice garden, and the hotel is set a few blocks off of the main street. Staff was very helpful and informative. It fit our needs perfectly. The free breakfast was a bit small (banana bread, fruit, coffee), so we usually upgraded to a more filling breakfast.

We enjoyed the location as it is within a short walking distance to the lake and the main shopping district yet is on a quiet side street. The rooms are basic and include hot water and wi-fi. The gardens are lovely and well maintained. Breakfasts are no longer free, but were inexpensive and very good. Staff was attentive and helpful. Overall a good value.
