Owner description: The giant caldera that made Lake Atitlan and it's three volcanoes frame the experience of nature on the nature trails, the hanging bridges or perched on the highest zip line. The two courses of zip lines fly of waterfalls, a coffee grove, the oak stands and the steep cliffs that guard the lake. In the Butterfly Geodome you can enjoy the colors and forms of hundreds of butterflies surrounded by flowers and the sounds of water. Surrounded by humming birds and the murmur of the river, you can take a break and have lunch, coffee or a drink and then continue to explore the diversity and beauty of this natural wonder. At night, the crickets, owls and the sounds of the night will be your company in our lodgings.

“Exhilarating zip line, beautiful butterflies”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

An amazing experience! The best zip line I've ever been on my life. Definitely worth the hike up the mountain.

Having butterflies fly around you in the mariposario is a very unique and beautiful experience.

This place is a must if you're going to Lake Atitlan.

“Amazing Beauty from the land to the people!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014 via mobile

Absolutely loved my time at the nature reserve. All the people there are so kind and warm. I did the zip line first and so enjoyed the beautiful hike. It is a little hike so make sure you're prepared physically but nothing too strenuous. You hike over lots of little bridges and pass by a waterfall or too and even get to see monkeys on the way. I think the zipline we chose had about 8 lines of varying lengths. The view is amazing and the guides are so nice. After the zip line we had lunch there at the reserve. They also have a butterfly exhibit that was beautiful! You can totally spend a day there for minimal cost and get to enjoy Guatemalan landscapes. They cover everything with food, bathrooms and giftshop. Loved it!

“Bring your swimming gear!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

We thoroughly enjoyed this nature reserve and thought it was 65Q (per person) very well spent!

It is around a 15 min walk from town, very easily accessible, and easy to spend at least a couple of hours there. It was lovely to see so many butterflies, as well as spider monkeys and coatis.

We particularly enjoyed sitting by the lake and admiring the view but unfortunately didn't bring swimming stuff so just dipped our feet. It would have been lovely to go for a dip as the water was clear and not too cold, very refreshing in the midday sun! It was also great fun crossing the hanging bridges to see the lovely waterfall.

The trails were very well-marked and interesting, with lovely surrounding views. The information in the tourist centre was excellent as well.

Afterwards we enjoyed two fresh juices, nachos & quesadillas for a very reasonable 77Q in total, including a tip, from the onsite café.

Couldn't have asked for a better afternoon!

“Good for butterfly lovers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

We took two tuk-tuk's from Panajachel to the Reserve as it was a bit too far to walk and you are on a busy highway.

The butterfly enclosure was very good and we took some excellent photos in that area. The only other photo opportunity was for a few spider monkeys that we saw as we walked up to the waterfall and back down again. A few birds but not anything outstanding. A bit expensive (Q65 per person) for what we saw considering the transportation costs (Q10 per couple) in with the entry fee.
