“Very lovely hotel in a lush garden setting on a lake.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Unique in many respects to include nice interior furnishings, wide open spaces and lovely dining room. There are two dining areas, one inside and one outside patio area. Beautiful garden surroundings to view no matter if you are dining inside or out. Unique furniture and sculpture; all furnishings were lovely. There is a nice front desk area and staff are helpful and nice. A lovely and large gift shop is in the front lobby.
Food in restaurant is very good. Always well presented by smiling staff. All rooms seem to have a view of the gardens and lake. There is a dock on the lake in front of the hotel and a helipad for persons who want to come in by air. This hotel is very impressive. I can't imagine staying in any other hotel in this area.
Rooms are a good size and well appointed. Bathroom is fairly large and has nice quality towels, hand towels and washcloths. Amenities are nice. Pretty tile work in the bathroom that we had. Room had a TV (even though it was small) , a large, low chest on which to sit personal items, a closet area to hang clothes and an in room safe which we used.
Rooms were kept clean and tidy. One small item that concerned me was water that somehow seemed to appear on the tile floor in the bathroom. Perhaps it was because the bathroom area seems to be a humid area, but at times I wondered if a sink drain was leaking. I did take my flashlight and look under the sink but could not see a leak. I wiped up the water from the floor and later on in the day I still saw water seeping from some of the grout in the tile floor.
As we only stayed two nights at this hotel I did not report it to the hotel staff.
All in all this hotel is relaxing and makes for a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: We had an upstairs room and this was nice. Do not know if one had a first floor room if you could h...

On the north shore of the lake, this place has beautiful grounds with many flowers, great pool and hot tub. Very good food, every room has a view of the grounds and lake. Lots of birds. The owners have decorated it with excellent taste. Negatives: aroma of insecticide in our room (but no one else in our group mentioned it), the second morning we ran out of hot water.. Over all this was a great place!

Stayed 2 night and loved the property , clean nice rooms , beautiful lodge style hotel and the only luxury hotel on the lake and least near Panajachel. Had a regular room which was slightly tight for 2 adults and 2 children but worked fine for 2 nights, with a nice lake grounds view , most of the rooms have a great views. The grounds are a botanical garden and in April were in full bloom!

Cons: $10 charge for in room internet , Internet was free other areas , lobby and dining room + bar area.

This is a great hotel .... pool was nice and a large warm hot tube ........ your a 10Q per person tuk tuk ride from town (5 min) and a 15-20 walk ...... the food at the restaurant is great but it competes with great food in PANA ... all international food in-town. Ask from desk for a tuk tuk (15 min heads up is needed for them to call) and its 10Q per person each way.....

This hotel seems to cater to group travel and there was a CARAVAN tour group there maybe 20+ persons.... all in all I would go back to this hotel , from what I saw its by far the only 1st class hotel in the area and thus has highest rates ... I am sure if you show up you could make a deal if there are empty rooms ..... however since its top rated its popular , I booked the hotel thru MARTSAM Travel in Antigua and online who got me a good rate and included breakfast. We were traveling with our 2 children and this place was safe and great with awesome pool and spa / jacuzzi. There is a dock and a helipad for those coming in on boat form other parts of the lake and or by air from the city. On the weekend the hotel gets busy with locals coming form the city to relax and hang by the lake and pool. There was no beach to speak of and did not seem anyone swimming in the lake in front of the hotel.

Really the only detractor was the fact there was a large charge for internet in your room but its free in the lobby and worked well. Food and drinks were great the staff was smartly dressed and very friendly sort felt like a high end country club experience. Right near by is a epic zip line course (5 min walk) and my 7 and 9 year old had a blast zipping thru the jungle , we saw monkeys and it was well run and very safe and modern zip line facility. Breakfast was excellent and had most everything you would want.

I would definitely return to PANA and stay at this hotel. Stay 2 days min here anything less you would be missing the full experience of the location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the lobby to get internet free in the room if needed and if you don't ge...

This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful hotels, I have stayed at, from hundreds of hotels around the world. The setting is very beautiful near Lake Atitlan with the most beautiful botanical gardens one can imagine. The hotel itself is a very nice building with unique furnishings everywhere. All rooms have a grand view of the lake and the garden. There is beautiful pool and a jacuzzi with a superb view on the lake. The service is impeccable and the food was excellent.

Room Tip: All rooms have nice views. The higher floor is probably preferable.

I recently stayed at hotel Atitlan for a quick overnight after visiting Chichicastenango. I wish I could have spent more than one night at this hotel. The grounds are amazing!!! It is located right on lake Atitlan. I thought I was in Italy, not Guatemala. I would definitely recommend this hotel for more than one night. It is conveniently located to the town of Panajahel. You could definitely walk into town, but a Tuk Tuk was only 10 quetzals. While at the hotel, they realized that I had booked a superior room, so they corrected that error immediately. Later in the afternoon, when I got back from Panajahel, a knock at the door and a man was there with an appetizer plate of meats, cheeses and nuts along with a bottle of wine. I told him there must be some mistake as I was traveling alone. He said no, it was part of my room package. So nice to sit on the patio and enjoy some wine! I unfortunately was there at the wrong time of year as I couldn't see the volcanoes across the lake. The air was so hazy the entire time I was in Guatemala, so that was disappointing. But, clearly, not the fault of the hotel. The best time to go is October or November when the Ir is clearer. I have stayed in many hotels all over the world, and this hotel was one of the nicest. I highly recommend this hotel. Do go into Panajahel. It is a great little town with one Main Street with restaurants and shops. I wish I could have spent more time here.

My husband and I just returned from a visit to Guatemala. While in Panajachel we spent 5 nights at Hotel Atitlan, and we are very glad we chose this hotel. It is beautiful and classy, and far enough away from the noise and shops of Pana to give you a relaxing, tranquil, resort feel. We spent each evening in the infinity hot tub, and after a few drinks it was challenging to think about taking a tuk tuk into town. We ate most nights at the hotel restaurant and bar. The only downside is that breakfast is a bit expensive. Most mornings we walked into town for coffee, or just ordered coffee at the bar and ate later in town. We requested a room on the 3rd floor and enjoyed fabulous views of the lake. The staff were all very attentive, the gardens are superb. We highly recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the 3rd floor, away from the restaurant & pool.

Extensive gardens immaculately kept. Great views of the lake from the decks. Nice pool and infinity hot tub. Short walk to a park with hiking trails, monkeys and zip-lines. Wifi worked in bar area. Museum pieces abound. Excellent massages available at reasonable prices.

Room Tip: top level for the view
