“Absolutely Outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

Hotel el sol is one of the best places I have ever stayed. It is immaculately clean, bright, airy and welcoming. The rooms are very pretty and well maintained and each floor has a lovely lounge area. The japanese family who run it take huge pride in the place and are very polite and welcoming. The food in the japanese restaurant is amazing - we ate there every night of our stay. It is located a 10 min walk from Pana main street which adds to its charm, as it means your view will be of lush rolling hills and you will get a peaceful nights sleep - something that will be very hard staying in the centre of town. It was a no-brainer for us to turn an initial 1 night stay into a week. It really is a hidden gem.

Although a bit outside of the hustle and bustle of Pana, Hotel El Sol provides very clean rooms. Owned by a japanese family, it also has a japanese restaurant. It is quite easy to take a tuk tuk into town and the people that run the hotel are accommodating.

My wife and I just finished an excellent fresh sushi and tempora dinner prepared at this hotel by the wonderful family that runs it. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and today is Monday. They prepared us a wonderful meal anyway! The hotel was almost full so we are staying in the dorm for one night, which I don't normally do. But even the dorm area is immaculate, with clean bathrooms, nice common areas and excellent fast and free wireless internet. They seemed thrilled to have us park our motorcycles in their garage, taking up half the garage. I am looking forward to trying their private rooms tomorrow and can't wait to eat another Japanese meal here. Highly recommended and very very affordable.

This was the cheapest hotel we stayed in during our vacations, in addition the staff was great, extremely polite and helpful. The hotel is run by a Japanese family, the atmosphere is great an adds a different touch to the experience.
The rooms are clean, spacious an simple. We ordered breakfast one day and it was plentoful and delicious, higly recommended.
The only downside it is the location in the outskirsts of Pana, but taking a taxi is very cheap and convenient,. I would definitely recommend it!

Lake Attitlan...one day we will be back....All the best memories! This is a safe, extra clean, value for money with excellent service. This is a Japanese family run property. Everything was just perfect. Only the distance from the city center but with a took-took is just a five minutes (and 30 cents) ride. Also note that Panajachel is a safe city..no worries...

Fresh sushi & clean rooms! Water is safe to drink, bathe in, etc. Cute hidden hotel that has sweet owners from Japan w/ fantastic customer service. The hotel is right between Lake Atitlan & Pana--perfect locale! Room & Board pricese are fantastic. (The sushi dinners are cheap & super delicious) Mama & papa san's English isn't the greatest but they get by well. Plus, their Spanish is pretty good. They so very helpful & accomodating.

For that little bit extra you would spend to stay at Hotel El Sol rather than a hostel, you get a really clean and nice room. The hotel itself is clean and respectful throughout. The owner was always at hand to help us and was very friendly. The bathroom was of a good size as was the bedroom.

The only negative about this hotel was its location. However a 4 minute tuk tuk ride into town was only 5Q per person and it was quite easy to get one outside Hotel El Sol.

Room Tip: Check on the location..
