“Great Guatemala Hotel for amazing price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

Super great service and excellent service for an extremely reasonable price. I'd highly recommend! The breakfast buffet offers lots of variety. Great atmosphere....very serene and peaceful. Love the atmosphere at night when the corridors are all lit up with candles. Very beautiful place. Nice, large comfortable rooms. Super comfortable bed with clean linens. Will definitely come back!

The Rokoko-Indian-Grandeur style might please or it might not, but in this hotel you have to deal with some severe shortcomings:
- Almost no storage in the room, I managed to somehow fit in my 6-day-business-trip clothing, but there's no way to properly store a couple's clothes
- Next to no illumination in the room
- Internet connection absolutely unusable with frequent WiFi-disconnections
- Overpriced and claustrophobic bar (seems the architects forgot about it and then had to squeeze it in somehow, somewhere)
- Food isn't bad, but in zona 10 every single restaurant I tried is better and far cheaper. The quality of the fruits at the breakfast buffet is lousy, there's no natural yoghurt and the cheese is so-so. OK to good american buffet, though.
- The laundry leaves a very chemical stench which obviously can also be enjoyed in bed
- Location is very far from anything of interest and taxis are the only way of movibg around
- The hotel was built exactly in the center of a 180 degree bend of the extremely frequented carretera salvador, so forget about opening the window: noise and US-castoff-buses from the stoneage make for a prohibitive combination for ears, nose and lungs

The staff is extremely friendly, the premises are well/kept and clean and the architecture might be very appealing if you like the style, but all in all the shortcomings are far too serious to be accepted in this price range. There are way better hotels in this city, which on top are much cheaper, too.

The Hotel Vista Real is an elegant hotel with comfortable rooms and awesome grounds. The tropical plants and flowers and water features make for breathtaking views around the hotel. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is prepared and served nicely. The staff is very
helpful and friendly.

good location – stayed 2 times one night there while we were on a tour in Guatemala. First time was when we arrived from Europe. Room was fine, breakfast buffet excellent.
Disturbing thing was that we had to pay for the water bottle in the bathroom. Tap water is not suitable for consumption so in most hotels they provide you with a bottle to brush your teeth. Not so in Vist Real where they charge you for it. As a result we had to go through the wholy sing and dance of payment with cashier and reception when we left early next morning, just for the price of 2 small water bottles.
Second time we stayed, we arrived late at night from Tikal, went straight for diner and then to our room and found that the room was still not completeley ready. Same thing with many members of our group.
Definitely something you do not expect and accept in a 5-star hotel, where you pay 5-star prices.

Wonderful architecture and style at every turn - inside and out. One of those places that soothes the senses. The staff was always pleasant and available. Breakfast buffet was just right and dinner was delicious. Loved the big bedroom and big bathroom. Well stocked with everything you need and the things I forgot. Workout room was a little small but I was the only one there. Will definitely stay here when in Guatemala City next year.

Room Tip: My room, while being next to the elevator area, was very quiet and I never heard outside noise.
