“Good Enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

This is a very standard hotel. Reception desk people ok. Elevator a bit old and slow. Spacious and clean bedroom. I had some problems with the room identification as the phone line was crossed with the side room. So during breakfast they had an issue identifying my room number. They fixed the issue but this should not happen in a chain hotel. All systems should be closely revised to avid customers inconvenience. Breakfast was standard. If you do not have tooth paste they provide you with one together with a tooth brush. Beds and pillows where nice. Many TV channels with good movie system. Internet in room and lobby was fast and easy.

Room Tip: You need to buy a bottle of water from outside because there is no water in the room and if you ask...

Stayed here one night as part of tour group.
Set In area that felt safe to walk around in the evening. Beds comfy , great shower.
Buffet breakfast but hotel really busy and we were shown to a side room. Service and food was good.

Pool looked nice with a seating area.

One moan though.......if you are part of the Holiday Inn group......we had a free soft drink minibar for a 2 night stay at your Holiday Inn Hotel in Jordan at the Dead Sea. Sorry but I feel your customer service is not good to charge $2 for a bottle of water.
We have just stayed in 16 hotels during this tour......and yours is the only one that charges.
Just a thought for the management to think about.........

Dear SUNTAN47:

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hotel.

We are thrilled to know that you had a pleasant stay. The location of our hotel is one of the best areas of Guatemala City; we are located lear many restaurants, shopping malls, and entretainment places. Our hotel has also been going through remodelations so we are happy to hear that you noticed such changes.

We are very sorry to hear that you did not get you welcome ammenity as an IHG Member. We provide to all our members an ammenity and we work really hard on recognizing each one. We apologize for not being able to recognize your membership upon check in. We will also let the corresponding department know about your complaint regarding the bottled water.

We hope you give us the chance to serve you better on your next visit to Guatemala City.

The staff is excellent –from the reception desk, to the restaurant, to housekeeping, to the porters – all were always ready to go above and beyond to make our stay the best possible! This hotel is well situated in Zona 10; within walking distance to two large malls (with cinemas, coffee shops, etc), close to many fine restaurants and a large grocery store. We stayed here when we first came to Guatemala City, then when back from Antigua, and also after our Tikal visit – it felt like coming home to comfort in a dozen ways (comfy beds, great TV variety, free WiFi, delightful breakfast, buffet and more). Plus – its only 15 min to the airport on the hotel’s free shuttle.

Room Tip: Rooms on the backside are quieter.

Dear Irene B:

We are very honored to know that you had an excellent stay with us.

We feel excited to hear that you found our staff to be friendy and helpful in all of the areas of the hotel. We work really hard everyday to ensure our guests feel welcome. We know that our location is one of the reasons why many of our guests choose us; we are within walking distance to many shops, restaurants, entretaining places and we are close to the airport.
Another big benefit that we provide is our airport shuttle service that is completely free of charge.

We thank you for your review and we hope to have you stay with us on further visits to Guatemala City.

Although most hotels in Zona 10 were booked solid due to a large event in the city, the Holiday Inn was able to accommodate us (four rooms) for a single night stay. I have IHG rewards, and I was automatically upgraded to the executive floor. Although I've stayed there before, this time it felt fresh and new. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and nicely decorated (they've obviously been renewed). Checking in and out was a breeze. I wish I could remember all of their names; they were very friendly and efficient; however I only remember Fernanda and Evelyn; they went out of t their way to make sure checking in and out were as easy as possible. My compliments to them!
The price may be a bit high for many, as Guatemala hotel guests must pay, I believe, 22% tax on the bill. Yet I definitely recommend the Guatemala City Holiday Inn! Zona 10 is safe, and it has tons of fun places to get good food within walking distance. And the airport is merely 15 minutes away in the hotel shuttle.
One disadvantage, though, it is the additional fee for a second Wi-Fi device in the room. Since I have IHG status I got both free; otherwise I would have had to pay for the additional one (laptop and smart phone.)

Room Tip: It is a busy area of town on all sides of the building, but if you are a light sleeper, make sure yo...

We stayed one night before a tour, and one night before departing. We found the airport shuttle. Originally we were told we would be charged. When I emailed, they said no charge. The Hotel isn't fancy, but is clean, comfortable, great beds, and has armed guards in the safest part of town.

Our first stay, we heard Hard Rock music most of the night, even though we were on an upper floor. Our second stay was quiet. We had no airport noise. Although the hotel is close to the airport, Guatemala City traffic is heavy and with the system of one way streets, there is no direct route. Allow at least 30 minutes.

Guatemalans are usually friendly and gracious--way above American standards. However, the front desk did not display this graciousness. Although we are reward members, we got no acknowledgement, no welcome, no perks. When we found bottled water at $2 a bottle in our room (outrageous by their standards), we called to see if we could have the water at no charge as a member perk. Request granted.

We did not receive a free breakfast. The buffet looked inviting, but we wanted a light breakfast. We ordered oatmeal--which took almost an hour to arrive.

Room Tip: Get as high as possible. Street noise can be loud in this zone!

Dear deekerdaisy:

We would like to thank you for the time you took to review our hotel.

We are pleased to hear that you found the hotel to be clean and comfortable and that you enjoyed our beds. We are also glad to know that you had a quiet stay on your second visit. We really appreciate you coming back!

However, we are sorry to hear that we were not able to meet your expectations as far as the service goes. Your opinion is very important to us because providing a great servie is what we aim for. We will definately inform of your comments to the front desk staff so they take your comments in consideration and make improvements. We will also report the issue you had at the restaurant to the managment of that area.

Once again we would like to apologize for not meeting your expectations and we would like to invite you to give us the chance to serve you better on your next visit to Guatemala City.

I stay at the Holiday Inn located in Zona 10 (the safest zona). I had an executive two room suite for $125 a night, plus $22 each night for taxes. There was a free breakfast buffet for one person, whether you had two people or not. The buffet was quite good. There was a heated outdoor pool and exercise room as well. The staff was quite friendly and very helpful.

The only glitch was there was no shuttle to meet me at the airport and the hotel would not reimburse my taxi fair.

Dear pbhomey:

We thank you very much for reviewing our hotel.

We are pleased to know that you had an excellent stay during your visit to Guatemala City and that you were able to enjoy not only the room but the swimming pool and the fitness center. These last two areas were recently remodeled, so we are really happy to know that you got to enjoy them. We also like the fact that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet that is made with fresh ingredients and has a vast variety of items to choose from. What we like the most, however, is that you found our staff to be helpful and friendly; this is one of our main goals.

Just one thing that we would like to point out is that our rates are subject to an additional percentage of tax rather than an exact amount in US dollars. (22%). Also we are sorry you weren`t able to make use of our shuttle service. We do have complementary shuttle service for all our guests to and from the airport since 4AM to 3PM running every half an hour. After 3PM the shuttle remains at the aiport waiting for our guests unitl 11PM. Hopefully you get to make use of it on your next visit.

We are definately looking forward to seeing you!
