I spent 5 weeks at the Casa America while doing some work just a few blocks away in Zone 2 in Guatemala City. The studio apartment I stayed in was perfect for my needs. It offers very good security (a must in Guatemala City); a fully furnished kitchen (with 2 supermarkets within a 5-minute walk); bathroom/shower with warm water; cable TV with loads of channels in Spanish, English & more; an excellent, reliable Internet connection in my room; and a view out onto a green canyon with birds singing songs I've never heard before and hummingbirds coming to visit often. The owners were wonderful, attentive to my every need. There's a really nice place for a $2 full breakfast -- also good lunches -- about two blocks away: "La Casa de Los Melaza". There's a Pinulito chicken take-out about 4 blocks away. I liked staying at the Casa America for another reason: I was genuinely in Guatemala, in a Zone with few tourists, rather than being in the artificial bubble of some big hotel. The only negatives are things that the owners can do nothing about: airplane noise is a bit of an issue after about 5 am, and Guatemala City can be a very violent place after dark, so one should take precautions.
