What a surprise to find this incredible jewel of a theatre in this South Georgia town. This building was built, I believe, sometime in the early 1920's and has been restored to its early magnificence. This theatre holds all sorts of events, and specifically the productions of a local theatre group and local university. But in checking their website I find they do all sorts of other things as well.
The admission prices are very reasonable, the staff are more than friendly, the seats are comfortable, the place is comfortable temperature-wise.
I must say that it is at least a pleasant surprise to walk through the doors of what appears from the outside to be an ordinary old-time theatres and to find yourself inside something so beautiful and magnificent. And they have a pipe organ which is quite unusual and very exciting to hear.
I visit Americus on business from time to time and was attracted to the theatre by a production that was being staged there and have been there occasionally since that time. If you're in Americus, you should take a tour and see a production here. You'll think you have gone back in time to a more elegant era.
