“Amazing Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

On a brief stop in Orangewalk to change the bus from Corozal to Sarteneja we wanted to change US dollars into Belize dollars.
It seemed to us that there were no money exchange places and the bank was closed on a Tuesday afternoon at 2:30pm.
Yvan of the Hotel de la Fuente was the only person who was willing to change our bills. He got a runner who took of with his bicycle.
While we were waiting we had a very nice and informative chat with Yvan. He gave us so may valuable traveling tips for our trip.
10 for service. Thanks for the great conversation, Yvan!

Even though I arrived at the hotel at 0600, I was invited in and made welcome. The place was busy, since the USAF occupied a number of the rooms. They offer a little buffet breakfast between 7 and 9 AM. They have a helpful local map available, too. I had a standard room with a double bed. Unfortunately, because of my timing, I ended up with the smallest rooms are in the hotel, but a/c, WiFi, and a tiny TV was available. They told me that they are upgrading in time. The bathroom was clean, small, functional, and fully equipped. All in all, this is a good value for the money. If you desire more space and, I would presume, larger TV screens, the new addition would be the way to go. Also, nearly complete, there is a riverside resort that will open doors by the start of this year's tourist season, that is part of this hotel and looks perfect for families and those into nature excursions. Lamanai tours are readily arranged by the hotel. As always, more on my website at cosmic-pearl.com.

We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. We were lucky enough to stay in one of their newly built cabins by the river and it was a great experience! The cabin was beautifully decorated, with a comfy bed, and the nice cold a/c was great after a hot steamy day outside. The staff was very helpful in setting up activities for us and even shuttled us to the cabin, into town and back (the cabins are a bit outside of the main area of town) The view of the river was beautiful and we even saw a little bit of wildlife while we were there. They have free wi-fi in the lobby of the hotel as well as a free breakfast of toast, fruits, jam, coffee, etc every morning. We even met the owner of the hotel and chatted with him for a bit - very friendly guy! Look nowhere else if you are staying in Orange Walk because this is the place to stay for a great experience.

We spent four nights here and sort of made it our base camp for exploring the area and it was a great experience. We arrived very early the first day and even though we had not officially checked in they still offered us free breakfast. That set the tone for the level of service you find here.

Any time we needed something the staff was friendly and able to take care of us. The room was small and basic but the A/C worked great and the wi-fi was strong so that is all we really needed. The area is quiet as well though shops and restaurants in the area do close up early so be warned.

I really wish all hotels had this level of service.

Room Tip: Room 300 is right at the top of the stairs and is at a great price.

The owners of this hotel were very friendly and helpful, both when I was emailing to book and arrange a day trip with them, and when we arrived.

The hotel is small and personal. The room was also quite small, but comfortable and functional.

Water and fruit are provided, and basic breakfast snacks. There was wifi in the room.

We booked the Lamanai trip through the hotel, and it was great.

The town is very small so everywhere is walking distance, so location is less of an issue. But it was on a quiet street close to the main street. It is the other side of town to the temporary bus station in use in April 2013, so that was a slightly longer walk then we'd anticipated, but very doable.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was very helpful, the tours they offered were good. There was a minor flaw in the tour to the community baboon sanctuary. There is another local spot right before the real one run by 2 rasta brothers. We went there and had a good experience but it was not what we were suppose to do. When I let the staff know this they looked into it and gave me a discounted ride back to Belize City. Get dinner early because everything closes up pretty early unless you go to the same restaurant every night.

This hotel was the best hotel I visited during my travels all over the country...including stays in San Ignacio, Orange Walk and Punta Gorda. But even without comparing to any other hotel in the country, or elsewhere in the world, this place is simply fantastic. Very, very highly recommended for the ease with booking, the quality of the room and its furnishings, the fantastic staff, and just the 'magic' of this special place. While I would have rated the place as fantastic anyway, what a pleasant surprise it was that I wasn't charged for laundry done in-house because I was there on a Sunday and the normal service was closed. That gesture on the hotel's part says so much about its willingness to be helpful and accommodating, not to mention so much about *not* getting lost in a range of inevitable transactions and instead doing everything possible to make whatever happen.
