“Interesting, Relaxing, Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights here, and opted for the accommodation package which included transfers, all meals, and 6 of the "standard" activities (2 per night's stay). The entire process - from originally inquiring and booking through Blanca - through to our departure was truly memorable and easy. We were met immediately after clearing customs at the International Airport and whisked away by a friendly driver, Calvin, to the boat launch. There, George transferred us to the boat. We were later arriving, and were amazed with how George navigated the river waters in the dark! We were greeted with welcome drinks and a delicious meal while our bags were taken to our garden view cabana.

We did the following light activities: Lamanai Ruins morning guided tour with Raul; Night Walk with Raul (saw tarantulas, scorpions, frogs, a Tommygoff, etc. - things you might not want to know are all around you at night!); a "Jungle Dawn" with Raul where we were very lucky to see loads of birds, some rare, as well as Howler Monkeys and the old Sugar Mill ruins; a Medicine/Nature Walk with Levi, and the Nighttime Spotlight Tour on the river, which was magical to coast under the stars along the river listening to only what surrounded us. Raul was a top notch guide and we really enjoyed his company. Levi is a wonderful more recent addition to the staff, and we really enjoyed his educational tour and his humour! Top shelf!

Being able to be at the doorstep of Lamanai was definitely a great way to see the ruins free of tour crowds (not that they are ever too busy in Belize). Climbing the High Temple was a lot of fun for a great panorama!

Food, as many have said, was very delicious and plentiful. We often asked for half portions because it was so filling. Great attentive service and truly wonderful variety and tastes. Thank you.

Accommodations were very comfortable. It is dark in the cabanas, but you spend most of your time outside anyway, and you don't need all the power.

Wifi and Internet at the bar was spotty - which is a good thing, as this is a wonderful place to unplug yet still get a little pampered. Great remote spot, and swimming in the lagoon, once you get past that there are shy crocodiles in these waters, was a nice refreshing break in the day.

I'm not sure how one couldn't enjoy everything on offer here! It is a bit expensive but great value and a great experience. I would suggest a minimum of 3 nights, probably 4 is best.

Room Tip: Two double beds in the cabanas offer plenty of space. I think you are perfectly fine with either gar...

A truly lovely and wonderful spot. Highly recommended. The staff were superb, friendly, and most helpful. Very much enjoyed. Getting there via the launch, on the river, was a great way to get into the mood. The proximity to the Lamanai ruins was excellent. We really enjoyed the nature walk. Say hello to the crocs, who are more afraid of you then you of them.

We expected this to be a remote outpost and enriching experience. Indeed, it was all we expected.
We went on 9 outings during our 4 days, 8 were included in the package.
Riding in an airboat at night to find and tag crocodiles was exhilarating.
The food is excellent.
Service is warm and friendly.
Internet is very spotty, but with patience you can get email.
It is a special experience.

Room Tip: All the rooms are fine. This is not a luxury resort. We did nit have ac and that would have been...

The Lamanai Outpost Lodge was the highlight of our trip to Belize and Guatemala. The most magnificent introduction was the 45 minute ride in a 4 seat speed boat from the Orange Walk road. It wound through narrow channels surrounded by tall grassland and trees populated by exotic birdlife. The lodge is remote but has everything you could need. Perched on a hillside above the lagoon, the 20 thatched cabanistas are well appointed and have magnificent views, only beaten by the views from the restaurant and "colonial" bar. The staff could not have been more friendly and the food was excellent. We had personal guided tours through tthe jungle, around the Mayan ruins (only a mile away) and very small group boat rides into the many small channels on night and day bird watching expeditions. This is the ultimate hideaway!

The arrival into Lamanai by the river boat and into the lagoon is spectacular and definitely the best way to appreciate the stunning surroundings of this lodge. The wildlife and views are amazing and the feeling of really being shut away from the rest of the world for a few days is great! The lodge itself is well laid out and the cabanas are spacious (although a little dark but that's not a major issue), clean, and we had the greatest view of the lagoon and the howler monkeys (not so appreciated when they howled at 3am but all part of the experience!). The trips included in the stay were great and the night walk was really interesting as was the dawn bird watching and the sunset cocktail cruise was just beautiful. Levy was our guide for most of the trips including the one to the Lamanai Maya ruins and he was excellent. He was knowledgable on the wildlife, the history and generally just a really nice guy...we couldn't believe he had only be doing the job for a few weeks - he has definitely found his vocation. The staff at the lodge were friendly and helpful and the food was amazingly good - although I have to say the portion sizes and sheer amounts were wasted on myself and few of our fellow travellers - you will definitely not go hungry here but they could maybe not serve quite so much all the time as the amount wasted felt terrible. Overall it was an wonderful start to our trip in Belize and we will have many fond memories of our little holiday hideaway.

Room Tip: Try to get a lagoon view as the afternoons spent in the hammock just relaxing and taking it all in a...

We started our vacation with three nights at Lamanai Outpost Lodge before going out to Ambergris Caye to meet up with family for a stay there. The staff at Lamanai can not be over-praised. They were helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and organized. We were there before the high season so we were able to go on many excursions as the only participants. Raul was our guide for most of these, and he was great. But every guide we had was good. The food was delicious and yes, as others have said, there was almost too much of it. But we ate it all up---happily. Birds, monkeys, Mayan ruins and wonderful people---we could not have had a better introduction to Belize.

Room Tip: We were in cabin number 9. We had a partial view of the dock and lagoon. The monkeys were howling ri...

We spent two nights here as a three generation group. This was not our first visit and this time we found standards to be as high as previously. We stayed in lagoon view cabanas with lovely views, especially first thing in the morning when we were woken by howler monkeys! The grounds are very lush and well-tended and half an hour on our terrace with binoculars produced a wide variety of birds. The food here is excellent and the staff went out of their way to accommodate the children and any dietary requirements. Beverages are available all day, from very early morning. All the guides at Lamanai are highly knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife, but particular praise on this visit must go to Mauricio for his birding knowledge, and for making a night walk and the Lamanai Mayan ruins so interesting for the children.

Room Tip: Have stayed in both garden and lagoon view rooms and both types are excellent.
