We stayed at the Toucan 2 for a three nights. The unit was small for our family of 5, but we did just fine. Malcom brought over a futon to place in the living room, for our son...which is why it was small for us. =) The home was clean and had everything we needed! The shower worked well, the air conditioner worked well. A stand up fan was provided to blow the cooler air into the bedrooms. We had a small kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator, which was very handy. The porch was awesome. Totally covered from the sun, room for two hammocks and a table and chairs. We spent a lot of time on the porch.

The bathroom was rather small and only had a tiny mirror. This is only a minor inconvenience because we have 3 females fighting for the bathroom and mirror every morning, LOL! Usually, with another mirror in the room somewhere, we can vacate the bathroom while one showers, the other can do their hair in the other mirror. We had to wing it a bit here, but it was vacation and we were at the beach most of the time so hair was less of an issue.

Like others have said, this is not a 5* accommodation. There are plenty of resorts around for that. This is a very affordable way to have your own beach house for a time! And affordable is getting more and more difficult to find in Placencia. Malcom is very attentive and helpful. You will have all the privacy and service you need at Toucan Lulu. Awesome place to stay!

We visited Placencia and stayed at Toucan Lulus (Cabana #1) from late February 2008 to early March 2008.

Upon arriving in Placencia, we were greeted by Toucan Lulu's property manager, Malcolm. From our initial arrival to our eventual departure, Malcolm was the most hospitable, knowledgeable, sociable, and thoughtful person we met while on our trip. We felt as though we were introduced to a long, lost friend and left knowing we had forged a genuine friendship. Needless to say, meeting Malcolm made our trip to Placencia worthwhile!

As previously stated, [while in Placencia] we resided in Cabana #1 at Toucan Lulu. Cabana #1 is located directly on the beach with the ocean footsteps away. The main room contains two beds, a futon/sofa, and a fully-stocked kitchen (microwave, refrigerator, freezer, pots&pans, utensils, plates, etc. all included!). There is a loft up-stairs with an additional bed and futon as well. The bathroom was clean and there were no problems associated with our stay in Cabana #1.

The porch – oh! The porch -- We could hear the crashing of waves while we all sat on the porch in the evenings, especially after a night out. There are two hanging hammocks, in addition to an outdoor table with 4 chairs! Yes, the porch is large! We met so many visitors and travelers to Placencia by just sitting on our porch and offering them a Belikin. Nowhere else in Placencia will you find a porch this large and inviting, located right on the beach!

In short, Cabana #1 is immaculate and a “bargain” considering the price paid for such a lovely location and accommodation. We would definitely stay at Toucan Lulu’s again and have recommend our friends, family, and now you, readers, to stay here as well!!!

(Sidenote: Toucan Lulu is located a mere 5 minute walk away from Barefoot Beach Bar, but far enough away from the late-night noise accompanied with the bars.)

We stayed 9 days at Toucan Lulu's beach front cabana and we were in "heaven" no tv, no computer and no cell phone needed for this wonderful experience, just hammocks,rum punch, great music and the view of the caribbean sea was all what was needed to lower your blood pressure.Our cabana was clean and very cute inside when we were in there.Malcolm (our host") was there for any of our needs and his wife Brittania is quite the chef and prepared fantastic meals for us to the point we have been on diets since we have been home.We were picked up on our beach to go boating and visit the beautiful cayes and our guide jumped over board and caught our conch lunch that he prepared on the caye while we snorkeled.Another trip we went on the boat to Monkey river and saw lots of wild life and then a foot trip into the lush jungle with a guide and on the way back saw the manitees.A stroll down the sidewalk takes you into the village where there is lots of craft shops made by the locals, wonderful restaurants,and beautiful beaches along the caribbean sea.I really miss Placencia and i know we are going back A.S.A.P. We have been Belized.

We spent two weeks in Toucan #1 during March. It was an excellent way to spend our family vacation. We were looking for an 'anti resort' experience and Placencia was a perfect fit.
Malcolm and his family and Joshua and his family all made us feel at home. They were ready to listen to what we wanted to do and to help make those things possible. The snorkeling was incredible, Monkey River and Cockscomb Basin were fascinating.
We loved spending time on the porch of Toucan #1 as well as walking around town and getting to know the locals. Placencia is the friendliest town we've ever visited. We are already discussing our return trip.
We recommend Toucan Lulu for those who like to experience their travel and the people around them.
