“The people make this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We took a large family trip (including aunts, grandmas, kids, friends, etc.) to visit my sister living in Belize with the Peace Corps. She said this place was recommended to her from another volunteer, who had already been in Belize a couple years. The staff was AMAZING - first, they answered all the millions of questions I had before I even got there. (It was my first time traveling with a toddler out of the states...I seriously had a million questions. :) Their response was always incredibly quick and friendly. The staff knew our names and our kids' names, and truly cared if we were having a good time.

Everything is kept incredibly clean. Some suites are nicer than others, but all of them are very comfortable. Having the kitchens in the rooms was super convenient. There was powerful air conditioning in each room. The food was very good at the restaurant, and they really catered to us. After a day of fishing, they even took the fish we caught and made us a custom meal! (It was amazing, btw.) Their is a nice little bar with the restaurant, where you get served right away.

We were there in the low season (November), and it was just the most serene, peaceful place I've ever been. I highly recommend visiting at that time.

The beach is beautiful, and the pool is clean and nice. Some resorts there have issues with vendors bugging you, but they keep on eye on that at Laru Beya. Right down the beach there are a couple more resorts that are a bit more "hopping" with bars and dancing, if you want to experience a rowdier night life or just a different restaurant or two.

A couple tips:
You might want to rent a car because it's a ways out of town, so bring your drivers license. It was cheap to rent a car right down the road. They do have a van at the resort if you wanted to go that way, but it does cost extra.

Grab some bug spray. They have sand flies in this region of Belize that bite. It wasn't out of control, but it was much better once we had some spray around!

Know that this isn't a big resort-y kind of resort. :) It is a small, quiet, safe, great place.

We loved our room here! We had a great view and a hammock on our deck! The hot tub on the roof was fun but it could have gotten a bit hotter for the night. The staff was really nice and even gave us a ride into town for dinner. We had just left an island where we were extremely busy and this was a great place to unwind. Loved the pool with the bar just a few steps away.

This resort was excellent - right on the beach, an open-air restaurant on-site with great food, and the staff was great. I traveled with several other women and all of our rooms were clean and very pleasant. I highly recommend Laru Beya.

Room Tip: Look at the rooms online to choose exactly what you want.

This was our honeymoon spot and we were very pleased with the condo. The view of the ocean was straight on and the beach and pool were well cared for. The grounds are well appointed with tropical plants & flowers. The staff was helpful and even had a gift for us on our arrival since it was our honeymoon. We did not eat at the on site resturant but did eat at the mexican resturant and the bakery across the road, both were excellant. Roberts grove next door has a lovely resturant but our experiance was not good - food wise there.
We did not cook but everything needed to cook was provided. They have nice porches on each unit and we met a couple who were renting for a couple months so that is available as well. The interior of the condo was nicely furnished although it was lacking a table of any kind to sit at. There were bar stools.
I would have given Laru Beya Resort 5 stars but I thought it was expensive for a condo. It really is not a resort in my mind as there were no activities. It is a lovely small condo complex. You really need a car to stay here more then a couple days as it is maybe 5 miles to town and no easy was to get there. Taxis are $10us each way.

Room Tip: They have rooms that do not face the ocean which are probably cheaper but I would pick somewhere els...

We were a large group (about 25 people) staying at Laru Beya for 1 week and it was a really nice experience. The rooms were beautiful, the service was excellent, and the food was superb. Staff consistently exceeded our expectations, especially in terms of having their new conference room ready for our arrival. It was a great place to hold a conference both in terms of being able to work and in recreational opportunities. We especially loved the availability of bikes to ride into town and the kayaks. A good thing for our group was that most of the staff spoke both English and Spanish.

Special thanks to Tim, Vernicia, Wynand, Rene, Rosendo, Trinell, Ana, Hector, Francisco, Denora, Alicia, Luigi, Joshua, Ventura, Samuel, Vincent, Graciela, Melinda, Gloria, and Iris. You're a great team!!

Room Tip: The family room is such an amazing room!

Here's what you can expect from this beautiful resort:

Gorgeous views of the Caribbean Sea from your room if you have a one bedroom suite. Sand flies were not a problem on this beach, as they were in Hopkins the day before, and this was a huge plus for us, made for a very comfortable beach experience. This resort is on the road leading into Placencia and is easy to find.

One-bedroom suites have full kitchens with dishes, cutlery, glassware, bakeware, microwave, oven, coffee maker, blender, full-size refrigerator, stereo, flat-screen TV with satellite channels, A/C in all living areas, huge bathroom with great water pressure and plenty of hot water, very comfortable King-size bed, separate living room with sofa and chairs, beautifully decorated, huge outdoor patio with chaises, chairs, table and hammock.

Smaller room: One double bed and one single bed, kitchenette with coffee maker and microwave and small refrigerator, private bath with shower, A/C, flat screen TV with satellite channels, no sea view and no outdoor patio, but these single rooms often adjoin with the larger one-suite units so if you are travelling with other people, you can rent both units, open up the adjoining door and share the living room and larger kitchen, and have an ocean-front view as well.

The on-site restaurant serves great food at reasonable prices and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. The pool is beautiful and the gardens and beach area are peaceful and well kept. Service is excellent and any tour can be arranged at the front desk. Free WiFi for all guests. Central location, close to the town of Placencia and walking distance to a great fresh produce market and grocery store.

This is an excellent facility for any type of vacation. We loved the full kitchen because it gave us the option of making our own meals. There is an excellent fresh produce market within walking distance and a large grocery store is near by.

I just spent a week at Laru Beya and wish I could go back! It was restful and I truly felt I had a vacation. The staff is so attentive and friendly. My room was cozy, brightly decorated and with an ocean view. Napping in the hammock on my balcony was a daily occurrence. The restaurant on the property was great, nice variety of menu choices and tasty. Again, I can't say enough about the staff. They are excellent and all my requests were met with a smile. Laru Beya has bikes to venture to nearby Placentia and a Hobie Cat to ride the waves on, or if I wanted to spend the day by the pool, that was nice too. This quiet resort is a great place for people who want a break from it all.

Room Tip: The best rooms have ocean views.
