my wife and i were part of a mission team and placencia was our place for some down time after working earlier in the week. this is a beautiful property---nice pool, great view, relaxing restaurant/bar (open air). we found the staff to be very helpful and extremely responsive. i asked for an extra couple of towels at the office and petro almost beat me back to the room!!! we liked having an upper level room with the hot tub. if you find yourself in placencia, Laru Beya is an excellent choice for your stay.

We had the good fortune of staying at the Laru Beya following a weeklong medical mission trip to Belize. Our entire group had rave reviews for this relatively new and excellent property. I visited Plancencia last August to make arrangements for our group and found that most places required a 3 night minimum. I explained that these were medical professionals who were working hard all week to serve the people of Belize and we only had 2 nights. That didn't make a difference with most places, but when I accidently stumbled onto the Laru Beya (it wasn't even in my guidebook!) I knew I had the right place. Petro and her husband are fantastic! They rolled out the red carpet, expressing appreciation for what our group was doing for the people of Belize. They arranged for special events, provided laundry service, gave directions, carried our bags!! The accomodations are first-class, the food was excellent, the service personable, and the location is perfect. I would highly recommend this resort. It's a great value too.

Mar 2, 2008 | Trip type: Solo travel

In the past, I have researched trips through the helpful resources of Trip Advisor and, in appreciation, wish to share with fellow travelers the exceptional vacation that I experienced last week.

I had the good fortune of staying four nights at the beautiful Laru Beya on the sandy shores of Placencia and could not have been thrilled with my choice of accommodations. Reflecting on the vacations that I have taken over the years, I can't recall ever having experienced the level of customer service, caring, and support that I received from Petro and Peter at Laru Beya. They're extraordinary hosts who go ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure that their guests' every need and interest are met. They have truly "raised the bar" to a new level that will be nearly impossible for future hotel managers or hosts to meet!

To provide one example, I encountered challenges in making unexpected adjustments in local and international flights for my return to the U.S. Petro did not want me to have to worry about anything and kindly made numerous calls on my behalf to resolve the situation, which gave me enormous peace of mind to enjoy my excursions. In the end, everything worked out, thanks to her attentiveness and special efforts.

To provide another example, as a solo traveler with an avid interest in nature and birdwatching, I was deeply appreciative of her efforts -- in advance of and during the trip -- to find an experienced guide. She hooked me up with Christian Bech, an extremely knowledgeable and talented guide, who I highly recommend for trips to Cockscomb (Jaguar) Sanctuary, to Red Bank (to see Scarlet Macaws and visit and dine with the people of the village in their homes), to see the Mayan ruins, etc. I had contacted several others about the birdwatching trip, in particular, and ultimately, it was Petro who made this unique experience possible.

And, finally, Peter was so very helpful with transfers, travel-related questions, and much more. His cheerful disposition and energy were infectious.

The entire staff of Laru Beya could not be more wonderful. When I dined in their restaurant, which overlooks the ocean and pool, the staff were warm and attentive and offered to whip up special vegetarian selections if I wanted more options than the vegetarian plates that already existed on the menu. Everyone at Laru Beya goes out of their way to ensure that guests have the most enjoyable and memorable experience.

Laru Beya's setting could not be more beautiful and tranquil, nor could it be more convenient. A short taxi ride away is Placencia Village and the airport. Next door, The Inn at Robert's Grove is a large resort that offers alternative dining options and a host of land and sea trips.

I was sorry to see my trip end; however, I know that I will return and that there is NO other place that I would chose to stay in Placencia.

We stayed at Laru Beya for seven nights and really enjoyed our stay. Petro and her husband Peter went out of their way to make sure we were happy with our accomodations and the room was perfect. It was spacious, neat, and clean, a bathroom nicer than ours at home. The ocean view and confortable hammock combined with the tropical breezes kept us cool. They offer to give you a lift into the village when they are going in which is helpful. Free bikes are available which allowed us to explore around the peninsula a bit.

Sailing their catamaran around was a blast and suba diving was a short walk across the street to catch the boat. Very convenient. Petro booked us a fun trip to Monkey River to see the Howler Monkeys after a short hike through the jungle. Clive, our guide, said he is related to 95% of the people in Monkey River and sure enough most of the people we met there, were related!

Thomas and Troy in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. It was nice having a close option for meals.

We are already looking forward to going back.

We spent three nights here and wished we were staying longer. The hotel staff is top notch, very friendly and really seem to care about your stay.
The restaurant is unfortunately not particularly good (and the wait staff is somewhat lacking) but that is not a problem as the Inn at Robert's Grove is just a few 100 feet down the beach. We also traveled into Placencia for dinner and had good food there.
Our condo had everything you could want including coffee for the coffee pot. It was large and comfortable, had air conditioning, fans and a small flat screen TV.
The sliding door opened directly onto the porch and beach and the front door opened directly onto the pool. Included in the cost of the room is the use of three kayaks and two hobie-cats. The beach was terrific - fine sand and warm, clear water.
We booked a 1/2 day of snorkeling through the resort. Go for a full day, you'll enjoy it.
