I had the pleasure of visiting Placencia and Ranguana Lodge the first 2 weeks of Sept. 2008. What a wonderful village, people and accomodations.
The lodge staff was friendly, professional and saw to my every need. Rooms were clean, fresh and comfortable. The view from the front porch of palms and blue Carribean were priceless. The grounds were full of greenery and flowers. Iguanas, lizards, hummingbirds and butterflies made for a picturesque setting.
The village was small, friendly yet provided all the basics needed.
Summer is the "off" season, so some eateries and tours were not available. I was able to "tour" using local buses and taxi's and people were very helpful in providing assistance.
Placencia and Ranguana Lodge will definately be visited again.
thx to all.

My husband and I booked two cabins at the Ranguana for family and friends. We stayed at a much more expensive resort in Placencia (5x the $$) and wish that we had decided to stay at the Ranguana as well.

The location is wonderful; right in the middle of town and within walking distance to everything. But the nearest bar (De Tatch) is still a couple buildings away so you could not hear the barflys in the evening.

The cabins and beach are very well maintained. Many surrounding hotels had peeling paint, rusting nail heads and falling apart beach furniture (and these are hotels in the same price range). The Ranguana was very clean and their beach was raked every morning.

Very highly recommended!

We just returned from 2 nights at the Ranguana Lodge. Nice place clean with helpful staff. Sunday night was loud as the band from The Barefoot Bar next door blasted away. They do not have live music every night. Check before you book. We did not get a cabin facing the ocean they charge more for those. No AC but plenty of fans. Bring your bug repellant you will need it. Sand fleas and Mosquitos are hungry and plentiful. The cabin was very clean with a small kitchenette. All things considered a good value but I would not stay on band night and I would get a beach cabin to catch a breeze. Good location but if you want clear water for snorkeling you will not find it directly in front of the hotel.

  • Liked — close to the beach
  • Disliked — the noise from the band next door

We stayed at Ranguana for 5 nights in April.

We were in the Trigger Fish cabin and friends of ours stayed in Angle Fish.

The cabins are rustic, however, they do have air conditioning, a TV, microwave, refrigerator and coffee pot and are kept very clean.

The cabins are steps away from the beach, water and town.

We stayed 2 nights out of town at Laru Beya and although Laru was very nice, we really enjoyed the Ranguana cabins and their excellent location.

Ranguana's beach and landscaping are beautiful.

De'Tatch, Barefoot Beach Bar and Tipsy Tuna are just a few steps away from Ranguana.

The conch platter at De'Tatch is delicious. Great happy hour daily at Barefoot Beach bar with $1 rum drinks. We also enjoyed eating at Wendy's, Omars, Purple Space Monkey, and the Pickled Parrot.

My boyfriend and I booked 3 nights at Ranguana Lodge after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and looking at their website. We're so glad we did; it was cute, clean, inexpensive, and right on the beach. Definitely the best value in Placencia.

This is the perfect small hotel to stay in: nothing fancy except for the beach outside your door. All the staff was friendly and very helpful -- last minute requests are cheerfully accommodated and recommendations easily given. The cabins were spartan, but very quiet, very comfortable and very clean. The beach was typical for the area -- some seaweed, but the Ranguana is one of the few places that rake it out of the way. They take great pride in their grounds and it showed. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Oh, but spring the extra money for the beachfront cabin. The breezes are worth it, and don't always reach to the cabins further in.

We stayed just two nights in Placencia and we are happy to have chosen the Ranguana Lodge. Its near some good bars and restaurants and the ocean breeze both on your hammock porch and IN your room, is awesome. The furnishings and appliances are new and clean and the bathroom is fully functional like US plumbing (not always the case in Belize). The owners were helpful and informative in helping us make our connecting arrangements. Believe it or not, we actually preferred our "Garden View" room the first night to our "ocean front" room the second night. It was a little more charming. And you can still see the ocean from the "Garden view " room. We stayed in the whie and pink one.

We were lucky to meet some talented musicians who just happened to be getting together to jam. Sitting under a palm tree on a white sand beach getting a private impromtu concert was a like a tropical postcard come true.

P.S. Get the conch fritters at D-Tatch restaurant two doors down.

I have some video of the room and Placencia on youtube.com/katiegd
