This tour was a little simple compared to others I have been on. We took a boat ride from Placencia that was a little longer than I would have desired. When we arrived we got a guide who did not really introduce himself. We went down the river and didn't really see much but the guide pointed out a lot of tree types. At some point we stopped and got off the boat and went into the jungle. BRING bug spray! We walked around for a bit and our guide spotted a howler monkey up in the trees, never would have seen that on my own. He banged on the tree and called out to the monkey and he started to howl back and more monkeys came. Some of them even climbed down pretty close to look at us which I did not not expect and was pretty cool. We also saw a little snake, some lizards and insects. On the boat ride back we saw a crocodile. We stopped at the town and our guide showed us some cool things around. I was disappointed that I never saw the manatees, that's what I was really looking forward to, we even tried on a different day and didn't see them. Overall it was a fun day activity, be sure and find a tour operator that doesn't over charge.

“Fun and lots to see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

This was a really fun boat trip and jungle adventure with Percy. On our way toward Monkey River, Percy stopped the boat for a while because there were dolphins swimming around. He is really good at spotting them and telling you where to look. Along the tour we saw lots of cool birds and bats (yes, bats that live on the river NOT in caves! They are cute and small.) and turtles. Once we got to the forest, it took a while but we did see several howler mokeys up in the trees. After our tour we stopped at Percy's mom's restaurant and had a typical Belizean meal of rice, beans, and chicken. It was fine. On the boat trip back we stopped and saw Manatees. Percy was very helpful in letting us know where to look because they only come to the surface briefly before heading back down. I really had a good time.

“Quite An Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Saw some great wildlife while cruising down our private tour of the river w/ Alex (great tour guide, by the way!) - crocodile, bats, turtles, birds, etc. Saw a HUGE spider too. Then, saw some great wildlife during our hike through the jungle - howler monkeys, termites, tarantula, snake, etc. Lunch was great too! Then, on our way back, saw sea turtles and manatees! Was AMAZING! My wife and I were very fortunate to have a private tour, too.

“Great Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We took the Monkey River Tour through Captain Jak's, they don't actually do the tour but book for Percy and his nephew. It was a great tour, saw everything that they said we would see, cocks, wholler monkeys, birds and manetees. We even ate live termits (only if you want to). Lunch was provided in the village at the mouth of Monkey River on the way back. Percy and his nephew are great guides, they also do fishing tours, so if you are interested in a tour book a couple of days in advance as they are busy. It was a super day.

“Have your camera ready”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We went with Terry, who is a resident of Monkey River Village and part of the village tour association. He had a life's worth of history to draw on, a well trained eye for animal spotting, and a great howler monkey call. The information we received was amazing and views were breathtaking! I have to give a personal shout out to his family owned restaurant that was amazing( just a heads up the menu is limited, but freaking good!) the village was a beautiful view of Belize past and present.
